Scope:

This document describes procedure to replace a SCEM

card on Schneider N series recloser. The procedure be
SCEM card also applied for U, W, RL series except for the session
B below due to the physical difference of the tank
replacement designs. This procedure is with assumption that you are
equipped with basic background on Schneider WSOS

For software.

There are four main steps which are detailed in. They

N, U, W, RL series are:

A. Preparing
range of the product B. Replacing electronic card
C. Reloading SCEM Data
D. Recalibrating voltages

2 Dong Hoang 22/06/2020 contains switchgear records and CVT
calibration data. Ideally it should be
captured from the most recent WSOS file
read from the switchgear that has the
SCEM to be replaced. The most recent file
ensures the switchgear records (which
include dynamic data like operation
counters, contact lives) are most up to
date. Cal files acquired from factory are
original ones with data for new unit.
Capturing cal file from an existing WSOS file can be
done in WSOS in offline mode. Opening Display-
Maintenance- Calibration page of a saved
switchgear file (WSOS file) will display details of the
switchgear records of that unit. It may be that the
Status page show “Data Invalid” but the Calibration
page still shows correct information. Provided the
switchgear serial number shown on the Calibration
page is the same as the physical one, found on the
name plate of the switchgear (circuit breaker unit),
the calibration is considered as good in most of the
time.

Please refer to the Calibration screenshots below for

more information on how the page looks like. A
copy of the cal file can be obtained by clicking on
“Save Data To File” on this page. A detailed
procedure to Retrieve and Write SCEM data are also
available.

protection settings is captured by selecting “Options- bosscem.
Read Switchgear Settings from Switchgear” at this
step. The settings may be used to be written back to
the controller at a later step.

B. REMOVING AND REPLACING SCEM CARD on

an N series Recloser

Step 1: Remove and store the six wing-nuts securing

the gland plate. Reach inside the SCEM compartment
and disconnect the control cable from the SCEM card

Warning: Behind the SCEM card is another card called

BOSSCEM. Do not loosen any bolts securing this card.

Step 4: Gently attach the new SCEM card to the

bosscem.

Step 2: Undo the four mounting bolts securing the

SCEM cover to the bosscem. Remove the cover

Step 5: Fit the SCEM cover and insert each of the four
screws and tighten to finger pressure to hold the cover
in place. Use a circular pattern to progressively tighten Step 8: Click the “Import Data File” button to
each of the bolts. The replacement SCEM card is now in import the cal file.

Step 7: Once the SCEM card has been replaced the

calibration file (That has been prepared in the above
Preparation stage) can be reloaded using the following
procedure.

- Make sure the controller is connecting with the

switchgear and that all data is valid.
- Go ONLINE with the controller using WSOS5
software.
- Open the calibration menu.

- Click Yes, next screen looks like this. This

actually asks if you wish to save a copy of the
cal file in your hard drive. It is not important at
this stage as this just gives you the exact copy
- of the file you have just “imported” .
!!! Warning: Recalibrating voltages involves
applying high voltages on primary
side of the recloser. Relevant safety
practice must be followed.

Step 9:
- Click No, the following appears and Recloser

- By “importing” and “writing” you have updated

the new SCEM card with the correct switchgear
records (serial number, operation counters, …).
However the voltage readings may not be in
expected tolerance. If so and you wish to
correct them, please go to next step. If not, just
go to Step 11

for the new data in Status and Measurement

- While online enter, one by one, the correct

recalculate the respective CVT data each time a
new voltage is entered. Following is an example
when” A1 Phase to Earth” field was selected
and 10005V was the expected voltage reading
for this terminal.
