1 Introduction
The construction manual contains all the hardware components of a network node that
are relevant for fault clearance using maintenance and nonstandard manuals.
The construction manual is divided into the following sections:
• Racks (division, layout of fuse panel)
• Module Frames (module side)
• Modules (faceplate, displays)
Two new GGSNs (CPG-3200 and CPG-3300) based on Cisco platforms have been in-
i troduced for the Siemens GPRS and UMTS networks. The old GGSN (CPG-3000)
based on SP-platform is still supported, but only for features until GR3.1/UCR2.1. New
features are only available on GGSN (CPG-3200/CPG-3300)

2.7.1 General Layout

Four configurations are possible for the CPG-3300. A basic configuration, a medium
configuration, a large configuration and an extra large configuration. The difference be-
tween these configurations is the number of MWAM (Mobile Wireless Access Module)
cards and 48-port (fast) ethernet cards. The terminal server and the LAN-switch catalyst
are both optional. In the basic configuration there is no board redundancy. The other
configurations contain redundant SUP2- and 48-Port E/FE cards. An option for the
GGSN is the Local Charging Gateway (LCG).

2.7.9 Local Charging Gateway (LCG)

Under normal circumstances, GGSNs support the centralized charging gateway in
which call records are sent to the remote billing centre via the Ga-interface.

Gn-interface Gi-interface

O&M interface

CPG-3200/3300

Ga-interface

LCG

Charging Interface (FTP) Ga-interface

Fig. 2.16 GGSN architecture

In order to prevent loss of data, a GGSN can be equipped with a local charging gateway
(LCG). The communication between the GGSN and the LCG runs over the internal Ga-
interface. If the connection between the GGSN and the central charging gateway (CCG)
were to fail, the GGSN would continue sending charging data to the LCG until the con-
nection is recovered. The GGSN re-establishes the original path to the CCG and con-
tinues sending charging data to that destination. The charging data which was collected
during the downtime of the link can then be transferred from the LCG via FTP. When
redundancy is required, a second LCG can be installed. Or as an alternative, an LCG
can be shared amongst multiple GGSNs. The component responsible for this is the Sun
Netra V240 Server which is designed for high-performance, high-density environments
and provides significant expandability. Occupying only two rack units of vertical space,
the Netra V240 server is configured with high-performance, 64-bit, SPARC® Version 9-
compliant UltraSPARC IIIi processors, each with 1 MB of L2 cache.
In order to store this charging data on the LCG, the SUN StorEdge 3310 SCSI Disk array
is implemented. This is a high performance storage system with Redundant Array Inex-
pensive Device (RAID) technology. Its disk drivers form factor is 3.5 inch and the power
consumption is 700 W.

2.8.1 General Layout

eGGSN provides a combination of GGSN, Selection Service Gateway (SSG) and a
Content Server Gateway (CSG) from a single platform, the Cisco 7613 router. Two con-
figurations are possible for the IPS-3300. A basic configuration and a large configura-
tion. The difference between these two configurations is the number of MWAM (Mobile
Wireless Access Module) SSG and GGSN cards and Content Switching Module (CSM)
CSG cards. For a large configuration, all these are doubled. The terminal server and the
LAN-switch catalyst are both optional while at the same time the eGGSN can be
equipped with the optional Local Charging Gateway (LCG) as described in 2.7.9 "Local

where GGSN, SSG and CSG are identically configured.

Color Description

Off - The module is waiting for the supervisor engine to provide power.
- The module is not on line.
- The module is not receiving power, which could be caused by the
following:
˚ Power is not available to the CSG.
˚ Module temperature is over the limit. Enter the show environment
temperature mod command to display the temperature of each of four
sensors on the CSG.

Red - The module is released from reset by the supervisor engine and is boot-
ing.
- If the boot code fails to execute, the LED stays red after power up.
Orange - The module is initializing hardware or communicating with the supervi-
sor engine.
- A fault occurred during the initialization sequence.
- The module has failed to download its Field Programmable Gate Arrays
(FPGAs) on power up, but continues with the remainder of the initializa-
tion sequence and provides the module online status from the supervisor
engine.
- The module has not received module online status from the supervisor
engine. This problem could be caused by the supervisor engine detecting
a failure in an external loopback test that is issued to the CSG.
Green - The module is operational; the supervisor engine has provided module
online status.
Green to - The module is disabled through the supervisor engine CLI using the fol-
orange lowing commands:
˚ config terminal
˚ no power enable module mod

The SGSN configuration is always realized with the XpressPass140 High Density shelf
(XP140HD), also named SURPASS hiD3140, and Cisco Catalyst Switch. For the cards
in the XpressPass140HD there are three possibilities: 2G, 3G or combined 2G/3G. Each
OEM rack of the SGSN system must contain either two XP140 frames or two XP140 HS
frames. Both frame types can not be mixed.

Level LED Color Explanation

Card Active Green Indicates that the card is fully operational.
OOS Red Indicates that the card (or one of its components) has
failed BIT testing.
Line Orange Indicates that the card has experienced a line fault
on one or more ports.
System Critical Red Indicates that there is a system fault that can disrupt
traffic to one or more services.
Major Red Indicates that one or more of the service cards is
showing a major alarm.
Minor Orange Indicates that one or more of the service cards is
showing a line fault.

Failure On On On If all LEDs remain lit for more than 15 sec-

onds, there has been a card failure.

Fl On On When LEDs remain in this state perma-

nently, there is a configuration problem in
the MCP. For example:
• mismatch between configured slot and
actual card
• no matching software
• temporary delay in software loading (no
aggregate card or too many simultaneous
loads to cards)

Operating Normal On Off Off Indicates normal operation

Failure Off On Off Indicates card major failure, for example:

Off Off On Indicates that one or more of the card port
are reporting Line alarms. The most likely
cause is a failure at the physical interface.
