The purpose of this document is to show the size, hardware configuration, and power
requirements for the standard configurations of MSCs in CME20 SS R6.1 with products
from the Hardware Evolution Program phase 1.3.
The document shows the type and amount of hardware as well as allocation drawings
for the included cabinets.
Two product lines of pre-defined HW configurations have been defined, that are the
Mini MSC Product Line and the main MSC Product Line.
This document also describes some of the characteristics that is general for the MSC
HW node configurations.
6WDQGDUG&RQILJXUDWLRQV
The following two standard products are described in this document:
1 Mini MSC
2 MSC
The Mini MSC is based on:
• APZ 212 25
• IOG20C (one shelf)
• 4K GSS 10.0
The following Model Station is described (traffic capacity based on 25mE/subscriber
inside brackets):
0LQL06&
The Mini MSC can support the following functionality:
• GMSC/MSC/VLR
• GMSC/MSC/VLR/HLR
• GMSC/MSC/VLR/HLR/AuC
06&
The MSC can support the following functionality:
• GMSC/MSC/VLR
• GMSC/MSC/VLR/HLR
• GMSC/MSC/VLR/HLR/AuC
GMSC
BSC
MSC
HLR
The MSC is assumed to act as a GMSC/MSC/VLR. The MSC is connected to a stand
alone HLR.
All incoming calls from PSTN goes through the MSC. It is assumed that “ near end
drop” is used.
The calculation of the hardware equipment needed is based on rules described in the
following documents:
7UDIILF3URILOH
The traffic profile used for these GMSC/MSC/VLRs is as in accordance with ERA/LN-
97:1118 SO Dimensioning Input as defined in the following table:
Air Interface 2 %
MSC - MSC 1 %
MSC - GIWU/DTI 1 %
MSC - VMS 1 %

Apart from two exemptions, all cabinets are built in BYB501. BYB202 HW are housed
in conversion magazines to fit in BYB501 cabinets. One exemption from BYB202
cabinet is the APZ 212 20 which is built in BYB202 building practice and housed in
BYB202 cabinets. The other exemption is the PRA cabinet.
Only narrow cabinets are used, except for APZ 212 20.

Some parts of the equipment have not been considered in this report nor included in the
cost assumptions, such as:

The Mini MSC exists in one configuration only, due to that only 8 DL3 connections are
available in the 4k Groupswitch.

The MSC Standard Configurations are based on configurations configured and
dimensioned around a traffic volume independent core and traffic depending extensions.

One cabinet houses IOG20B together with test telephone connection, PDSPL2 and CLM
/ RCM.
'7,&
One cabinet houses DTI, C7 terminals (RPG2 based), ETC5 and 5 PDSPL2. C7
terminals are sufficient for up to 118k subscribers (2950 E) with the assumed traffic
model.
*6
One cabinet houses the groupswitch 0-16K and optionally up to 32K with fully
equipped magazines groupswitch. In order to prepare for a future expansion above 16k,
this cabinet has double depth. The double depth is required for cabling.

One cabinet houses 2-3 AST DR (64 ch. each) together with 16 IO2B for DL2/DL3
conversion (for AST DR and DTI). IO2B capacity is sufficient for all defined standard
configurations

SSF functionality is obtained by adding cabinets housing two AST DRs (64 Ch. each)
The C7 signalling capacity in the standard configurations is sufficient also for SSF
functionality. IO2B for DL2/DL3 conversion are included in the standard
configurations.
