Drop on the Clay

Activity 1.3
Name:______________________________________________ Date:__________
Grade and Section: ___________________ Group no:_______ Score:__________
Teacher: Queeny S. Quetua

Objective:
 Measure how deep the marble has penetrated the clay bed.
 Compute the Gravitational Potential Energy of marble

Materials: Clay (enough to make a 10 cm by 10 cm by 10 cm of clay), marble (2.5 cm in diameter),

meterstick, and ruler.

Procedure:
1. Prepare the 10 × 10 × 10 layer of clay on the floor.
2. Using the meter stick, measure exactly one meter from the clay bed, and then position a marble at this
height.
3. Drop the marble on the clay bed.
4. Using the ruler, measure how deep the marble has penetrated the clay bed.
5. Repeat the experiment in varying heights. Observe what happens to the amount of penetration on the clay
bed.
