Let's know a little about the history of "the monster of Monserrate".

Freddy Armando Valencia better known as "the monster of Monserrate" is a man born in

the city of Bogota in 1982, he grew up in Kennedy, a popular area in the west of Bogota.

When he was very young, he began to show a very violent attitude, so his parents decided

that he should learn martial arts, arguing that this style of fighting could help him focus his

life and control his emotions.

Unlike other serial killers, Valencia had a college degree, passed high school and made it to

the fourth semester of college, studying industrial engineering. The bad things in the life of

young Freddy Armando Valencia led him to consume drugs such as heroin and cocaine at

high levels, which produced many problems at home and finally Valencia's parents ended

up kicking him out of their house. This forced him to

became a street dweller due to his frequent drug use, and for a long time he lived in the

eastern hills, especially on the Cerro de Monserrate, where he has his famous criminal

nickname.

CRIMINOLOGICAL PROFILE OF FREDY ARMANDO VALENCIA.

In this opportunity we will define the criminological profile of the "Monster of

Monserrate", for this, we must refer to four key aspects: crime scene, modus operandi,

geographic profile, and signature and victimology.

Scene of the crime: the place where this murderer carried out all of his

The place where he was killed was very well known to him, since, as a street dweller, he

established his place to stay in this place (Monserrate hill) where he had been living for

many years.

built a cambuche.

Fredy according to what the prosecution narrates in an indictment in a hearing held

in 2016, was located in the Bronx sector in Bogota to find women and convince them to go

with him, promising them clothes, food and drugs; to which he managed to

The aggression of Valencia towards his victims took place at the moment when he was offering

them drugs or any psychoactive substance.

He then raped them and dismembered them to bury them wrapped in black bags or blankets.

Geographic Profile: The geographic profile used by Valencia was always the

slopes of Monserrate hill, as it has been previously mentioned, in this place he made

improvised plastic or recyclable material shacks, a suitable space to live and to commit his

crimes, he also took advantage of the fact that it was a place with little traffic which

allowed him to do his work unnoticed, with the ultimate intention that no one suspected that

heinous crimes were committed in a shack. He also moved to the Bronx sector where he

would get the victims and then take them to his shacks on the Monserrate hill.

Modus Operandi and signature: their modus operandi was to go to the street in

the Bronx and there get young women between 18 and 22 years of age who were also

street dwellers who used drugs just like Valencia. He tricked them by offering them a type

of "benefit" in order to gain access to them, and at the moment of

then came the part where he went from being Fredy, to being the Monster of Monserrate,

since the women did not agree to his sexual requirements, he strangled them until

cause their deaths and on some occasions practiced necrophilia.

So, Valencia had his modus operandi quite clear, since he mastered it and knew

what he had to do, and of course, after several years of doing the same thing he was

already creating experience and with it the confidence to feel even more confident when

committing the criminal act for which he was known since 2015.

"The subject murdered the women, then wrapped them in blankets and garbage

bags, to finally bury them among rubble and debris. Such was the amount of garbage that

We have already removed three dump trucks full of waste," said a police officer (El Nuevo

Siglo, 2015).

It is worth mentioning that his modus operandi included the selection of

women from the street, which is why the investigators were struck by the fact that the

women were selected from the street.

always be women that no one would be interested in and, therefore, no one would be interested in

to file missing persons reports and thus continue to go unnoticed.

Victimology: this refers to the way in which Fredy Valencia proposes that mode of

operation and also that criminological signature, so a study is conducted where the victims

are analyzed with the murderer, to find relationships or patterns in common between them,

in this case the victims of the monster of Monserrate were young women, it is also

established that like him were people who consumed drugs and frequented the same sector

which allowed Fredy to carry out his whole macabre plan.

The victims then belonged to a specific space (the street), so Valencia did not

commit his criminal acts by entering houses or finding his victims in another sector of the

city, he only went to the Bronx, a sector in which any type of drug was available in large

quantities, which is why Fredy Armando Valencia was clear that each victim needed to

consume drugs and from his modus operandi, these women were the most appropriate for

the heinous acts he committed. Therefore, it is evident that Valencia had determined the

types of victims he required to carry out his macabre acts.

Conclusions.

Analyzing the criminological profiles of serial killers allows to strengthen

theoretical bases and foundations through documentary experience, since through these

analyses it is possible to learn techniques to identify patterns and behaviors of

psychopaths, murderers, pedophiles, pedophiles, pedophiles, etc. It also allows us to reflect

on the behavior of criminals before, during and after committing crimes.

In the specific case of Fredy Valencia the "Monster of Monserrate" it was evident

that many situations during his youth led him to commit his unjustifiable acts, from

situations in the school environment during his childhood, as well as in the family

environment and later in the love sphere, all this conspired against Valencia to turn him into

the unfortunate "Monster of Monserrate".

With respect to the latter, I emphasize the importance of maintaining emotional

stability in different environments of life (school, family, friends, love relationships, etc.)

in order to prevent the attainment of behaviors that may alter the emotional state of the

individual.

behavior of human beings and end up threatening their own integrity and that of others.
