ACTIVITY
1. What are the key differences between monitoring and evaluation?

2. Consider Figure 3 from the Unit 2 Quick Guide:

a. Look at the inputs of the school strand (‘Activities and resources in schools’) and consider what kinds
of things should be monitored to ensure that the outputs are achieved.

b. Look at the outputs and outcomes for this strand and consider what might be the subject of
evaluation to ensure that the outcomes are achieved.

You can refer to Unit 1 Quick Guide: Monitoring and Evaluation Overview, Figure 2 (Results Map for a
teacher support programme) to give you an idea of various activities, outputs and outcomes for a
teacher education programme.
