Executive summary

2023 has been declared the Year of Open Science by the White House Office of Science and
Technology Policy (OSTP). Open-source science is a commitment to openly sharing software, data, and
knowledge (algorithms, papers, documents, and ancillary information) as early as possible in the scientific
process. It is also an opportunity to involve a wider range of people in research, including those from
outside academia. Open science challenges have contributed to a huge positive impact on the research
field and other aspects of the science field. The challenge of "Marketplace for open science" was chosen
to solve its necessity in promoting projects' creation.

the current lack of a dedicated online space for project creators and skilled participants to connect and
collaborate hampers the progress of open research initiatives. By establishing a centralized platform, we
can bridge the gap between project creators and potential participants, creating an environment that
nurtures professional relationships and fosters collaboration. With comprehensive search functionality,
effective communication tools, and a feedback system, this platform would empower open research
initiatives, leveraging the collective expertise of skilled participants to address complex scientific
challenges and drive innovation forward.

This platform was designed in a specific way that effectively attracts all the project creators in different
fields. The platform provides a scientific community of several open science stories and competitive
challenges with suitable levels to improve the up-working research and encourage the youth and kids to
create solutions taking place in world challenges and learning the principle of problem-solving strategies.
This platform will be ready for publishing for public use to be globally beneficial. How the platform
achieves the requirements will be discussed in the coming sections.

Problem Definition:

The problem is something like the question needs a solution. All the resources cannot be found when a
project needs to be created. Challenges are posed for both project creators and individuals interested in
participating due to the absence of a centralized platform for open research projects. Difficulties are faced
by project creators in attracting skilled participants, which hampers the progress and impact of their
projects. On the other hand, the starting point for research is not known by individuals, and some people
are unaware of where to publish the data that has been obtained. All of those things are barriers to the
execution of projects, and the challenges our world is facing now are not known by most of us.

Addressing this issue is vital for fostering professional relationships, connecting project creators and
participants, and promoting open research initiatives, enhancing progress and impact in various fields.

Background & Literature Review.

After immersing ourselves in extensive background research, we embarked on a quest to discover the
hidden gems of open science sources to review the feedback on them to highlight the cons of these
sources and improve our solution. Among the constellation of prior solutions, one star shone brightly:
NASA TOPS was serving as a trusted open source of scientific wisdom. Inspired by its success, we set
our sights on creating a similar beacon of knowledge, a public website that would captivate hearts and
minds.

SciStarter, NASA Kids' Club, and National Geographic Kids are those fascinating websites that made
our childhood different. Those websites give the kids the enjoyment of science in simple ways like
science games, simple audio, cartoons, etc. Having previous experience makes one aware of the
importance of kids' teaching applied science in a simple way that makes them pioneers in the future.

After connecting our thoughts, we came up with a connection between those aspects to create an
effective design that covers the requirements of the challenge in a brilliant way.

Methodology.

The challenge aims to achieve the ability for project creators to explain their projects and their
experiences. So we planned to cover the following requirements in our solution:

Option for individuals to list the skills that they can bring to a project. The tool should enable project
creators to search for collaborators based on specific skills and the level of expertise they require. The
tool should allow individuals to search for projects based on their interests. Communication Features. The
tool should be able to handle a large number of project creators and potential contributors. Ensure the tool
can accommodate future growth and additional features. Implement a system for project creators and
potential contributors to provide feedback and ratings based on their collaboration experience. Enable
users to evaluate the quality of the projects and the contributions made by collaborators. Mobile
Compatibility. Ensure the tool is compatible with mobile devices, allowing users to access and use it on
smartphones and tablets.

The chosen tool to apply our plan and the design of the website contribute to achieving the requirements
of the challenge. The methodology will discuss how it covers the requirements.

The Engineering Design Process (EDP) was followed to come up with the solution as the following:

Step 1: The concept of open science was studied carefully including its importance, principles, resources,
and challenges from different resources and the resources provided by the contest app
NASA Space Apps Cairo 2023 || Proposal Template

Step 2: It was the step for determining the tool that will be used to achieve the challenge. The platform
was found the most suitable tool for our plan as it will be published for global use and can be compatible
with mobile devices.

Step 3: A plan was put in according to the solution requirement. with creativity to connect different
aspects of service so now let's contribute to the detailed design of the website:

The website home page: a good identification for the open science and the website will be added to be as
a guide for the user. Tree pages will be included inside the website and they will be like the following.

The first page will be the open science work source that will be in different science and technological
fields.

The second page will be a contest page that is composed of large challenges that face the world. That will
provide individuals who are searching for projects to work on based on their interests. It will be a section
for simple challenges that fit the kid's age. This page will include the submission form the challenges and
a request for scientists and researchers to show their work to share their data on the open science source
page.

The Third page will be in other means a (collaborators market) that will be a list of project creators. where
Project creators will add their profiles according to a standard form designed by us to explain specifically
their projects, the type of collaborators (and level of expertise) they are looking for and the time they will
be available for work. As a 'customer' or a 'creator' you can easily find a project's creators in different
fields to collaborate with or even to ask them for help in your project.

Step 4: It is Time to collect the needed data for the website including open science sources, TOPS was
one of the sources that was depended on in searching besides other sources.

It was planned to get help from a computer science and artificial intelligence university student to write
the codes of the web.

By fulfilling these requirements, the tool will effectively enable open science project creators and
potential contributors to identify each other, communicate, and collaborate on projects of mutual interest.

Value proposition.

Our solution aims to solve the lack of a centralized platform for project creators and skilled participants to
connect and collaborate on open research initiatives. What makes our solution valuable is showing the
efficiency of the design as it contributed to building a scientific community that collects project creators
and skilled participants from different fields by following a brilliant strategy in designing that and the
added content that attracts the skilled participant and contributes to evaluating its reach as it's suitable for
all ages. Serving the user, a trusted source of open science to contribute easily between recent and past
achievements in different science fields. providing the project creator with access to make their profile
representing that clarify their skills in a clear way to improve the communication opportunities between

project creators to host their collaborators. Open discussions with experts and scientists or even a user like
you will be available to get help easily in your project. The scientists will have access to share their
research data and results to contribute to promoting the Open science mission. The competitive challenges
page was designed to promote the kids and youth with competitive vibes to show their creativity in
problem-solving.

To summarize, the designed platform doesn't represent the idea of the solution, as the website is just a
tool to achieve our target and it was found as the most suitable tool to apply our solution. The content of
the website with its sequence was found to form a different scientific community that encourages
researchers and project creators from kids to adults to take place in solving global challenges and
contribute to the use of open science by providing them with a trusted source, communication place for
project creators and open discussion to ask experts and help each other. This solution will further
contribute to achieving the SDG challenges by recommending solutions for the global challenges by the
coming and current generations. Lastly, it’s a pleasure to get access to publish our work looking forward
to the differences that will take place in the science field.

Workflow strategies:

To be able to innovate and produce beautiful work, we need to have a plan that guides us. The plan is
crucial to take steps forward because we know exactly what needs to be done and what is missing. In
other words, things are made much easier for us by the plan. That's why a plan has been created that will
be followed throughout the hackathon, which includes the following steps:

● The first step, and it is believed to be the most important thing that can be done, is for hope to
never be lost and for confidence to be maintained that what is coming is good.
● The supervisor's opinion on our work will be sought and any necessary adjustments will be made
based on their feedback.
● Feedback will be gathered from other teams and their opinions will be considered.
● Our work will be reviewed and any areas where there may be lacking will be identified.
● Others will be assisted if someone needs our help and collaboration with them will be done.

As it is said, cooperation is the key to success. So, the more each other cooperates with, helps,
communicates with, and understands better, the more the chances increase to achieve good work that can
be proud of, even if everything desired is not achieved. However, some experiences and benefits will have
been gained from this experience.
