Seesaw

Cool Tools for Teaching

Summary
The tool that I selected is called Seesaw. Seesaw is a website that allows
educators and students to make online portfolios to connect with parents
about their students progress. It also allows you to have 1:! conferences with
students and parents along with whole class messaging or individual
messaging between students and parents. Seesaw also provides math and
literacy practice, computer science instruction, formative assessments, and
online progress monitoring and reports.

The main purpose of this tool is to be able to monitor students learning

progress online while being able to allow parents to also see what their kids
are learning and how well they are learning it. I think it is also a great
resource to use to interact with parents and keep a digital record of students
behaviors and learning.

Classroom Use
Reflections
Have students use Seesaw to create their online
portfolios. I would give the students 15 minutes a
week to put.create their portfolios to send to their
parents bi-weekly. This way parents are updated
regularly on what the students are learning.

Organization
Using Seesaw is a great way to stay organized in the
classroom. Instead of having paper copies of
progress reports. Seesaw automatically grades
assignments and imports it to show the students
progress. It helps keep progress in digital form.

Activities
Seesaw has many different math and literacy
resources in the Seesaw Library. I would have
students work or choose certain activities based on
what we are learning that day. I could also choose a
topic and have the students do a formative
asssement that is pre-made in the library as well.

Communication
I would use the communication part of this tool to
connect with parents. I would send the students
parents bi-weekly progress reports ie their portfolios
to show what they are learning and how well they are
learning it, I would also use it to keep record of any
conversations with parents that have questions or
concerns about their student.

Example

In this photo I am showing how students get to show me what filled their
bucket and what drained it that day so that I know how to better suit their
needs. You can send this activity through the tool to all the students once
you create a classroom with all the students.
