 Fundamentals of Hydrology (Tim Davie)

 Hydrology is concerned with the distribution

of water on the surface of the earth and its
movement over and beneath the surface, and
through the atmosphere.

 Unlike dams the purpose of a barrage is just
to divert water and not to store it. In Pakistan
there are number of barrages which are used
to draw canals to meet the requirements of
irrigation in the country.
 Ghazi barrage shown in the coming slides is
one of the examples of a barrage.

 Salinity Control and Reclamation (SCARP)
Conversion 1 acre = 43650 ft2
 O & M (Operation and Management)
 What are floods? What are the advantages and
disadvantages of floods? What are the factors that can
cause floods?
 What are main causes of floods in Pakistan?
 What is Indus Basin Treaty? What is documented in the
treaty? Are the constituents of the Treaty still valid from
Pakistan’s point of view in current hydrologic scenario?
 Discuss importance of CPEC?
 Enlist the key projects of CEPC. Discuss in
detail the projects related to hydropower
development under CPEC.
 Submit a detailed report on Kalabagh Dam
covering all aspects.
