MAAP-X MNS Custom Message Set Order Form (11 msgs)

Form Purpose
Use this form to order a new MAAP-X MNS Custom Message Set (up to 11 messages).
Important! Messages 1-8 can be activated from the D-21 or from the MAAP-X Panel or LOC. Messages 9-11
can only be activated from the MAAP-X Panel or LOC.
The MAAP-X Touch Screen has 12 programmable message buttons. Messages for buttons 1-8 can be activated from
a D-21 or from the MAAP-X Panel or LOC. Message buttons 9-11 can only be activated from the MAAP-X Panel or
LOC “in-building only pre-recorded MNS”. LOC Touch Screen message button 12 is pre-programmed for the built in
mic for live-voice messaging. The LOC Keypad does not have a built in mic, it has a push-to-talk mic so message button
12 is typically not used.
NOTE To order an existing site established MAAP-X MNS custom message set, use MAAP-X MNS Existing Site
Established Custom Message Set Order Form (P/N 001-583-01). Call your Customer Service Representative to request
existing site established MAAP-X MNS Message Sets.

Message Set Recommendations

For the best experience possible when using the Monaco MAAP-X and D-21 for site wide MNS, please consider the
following recommendations:
a The D-21 should preferably have one message set for in-building MNS, but no more than two (2) message sets
dedicated to in-building MNS. A typical message set contains up to eight (8) individual messages in a specific order.
NOTE Message buttons 9 and higher can only be activated in-building, not from the D-21.
b A MAAP-X message set should match the D-21 in-building message set or a “compatible” message set.
NOTE A compatible message set is a set of messages where each individual message may vary slightly between
buildings, but the content and purpose of the message is the same. For example, the Evacuation message in one
building may say “Do Not Use the Elevators” but in another building without elevators, it may not.

c The D-21 in-building message set order/number and the MAAP-X message set order/number should match; that is,
one in-building message set for the entire site. The in-building message set for building A should match the in-
building message set for building B and so on.

If the message order/numbers do NOT match, then the operators at the D-21 may think they are activating the “Shelter in
Place” message, but the “Bomb Threat” message is actually being played in the building.
Following these recommendations will simplify D-21 Administration and site-wide Operation for MNS emergency events.
Moreover, for simultaneous MNS activation of 100+ buildings, “Group MNS” should be used. Group MNS requires
common message sets between the D-21 and the building MNS panels (i.e., a particular message can only be active for
a group of buildings that have the same message set).
NOTE If the D-21 has multiple message sets, select the message set that matches the area that the MAAP-X is being
installed in.
Summary
 Use an existing MAAP-X site approved message set when possible that matches the D-21.
 Select the MAAP-X message set that matches the messages for the area that the MAAP-X is being installed in.
 If an existing message set will not work, fill out this form to order a new message set. Call your Customer Service
Representative to request existing site established MAAP-X MNS Message Sets.

Custom Message Guidelines
The following illustration shows a comparison between the information entered in the MAAP-X MNS Custom
Message Order Form and the MAAP-X MNS Touch Screen.

The 25 character Message Name entered

in the MNS Message form displays on the

Overview General Guidelines
MESSAGE NAME
 The Message Name is 25 characters maximum. (This name appears on MAAP-X MNS Local Operating Console (LOC)
touch screen, the Addressable Planner Configuration file, and Activity logs.)
MESSAGE ICON
 There are 21 message-identifying icons, one of which is “blank” (see page 18). You can select one icon for each message.

You can enter “000” (blank) if you do not want an icon to appear on the MAAP-X MNS touch screen.
 The icon appears next to the Message Name on the MAAP-X MNS Local Operating Console (LOC) touch screen.
MESSAGE VOICE TYPE
 Both male and female voice types are available. If a voice type is not selected, a male voice will be used.
MESSAGE TONES
 The MAAP-X has a 520 Hz built-in tone that can be added to any message as a pre-tone, post-tone, or both through the
MAAP-X Planner. User specifies tone duration in seconds.
 Tones defined in the message form are selected from the Monaco Message Tones Library. The library incudes: T3 tone, T4
tone, ding-dong, ding-ding, chimes, whoops, and more. For tone details, see page 19. Based on the tones selected, you
must add the Tone Duration or Number of Rounds.
 A pre-tone plays to signal the beginning of the MNS message.
 A post-tone plays to signal the end of the MNS message.

Any tone duration will be followed by 1/2 second of silence.
 You can choose from Monaco’s Message Tones Library, designate no tone, or designate a custom tone. Contact a Monaco
representative to hear tone options.
AUDIBLE MNS MESSAGE RECORDING
 Monaco accepts customer-provided pre-recorded audio files for the message recording. Indicate whether you will be
providing an audio file in the Audible MNS Message Recording section of the form.
NOTE Monaco cannot accept audio files in encrypted or copyrighted formats.
 If a multi-language message is required, submit non-english language audio files for recording. A .wav file or CD must be
accompanied with an English translation of the message and with the assigned MNS Message Number.

AUDIBLE MNS MESSAGE WORDING
 Monaco recommends limiting the audible message time length to one minute.
 Monaco recommends brief, concise messages so that wording in both the Audible MNS Message Wording and MNS
Message Screen Text sections of the form say the same thing for the same message. If the wording in the Audible Message
is greater than 255 characters, including spaces, the MNS Message Screen Text wording must be an edited version of the
recorded audible message to get it below 255 characters in length.
AUDIBLE MESSAGE FORMAT
 When Audible Message Wording plays, select between the sequence of pre-tone, message, post-tone or the sequence
of pre-tone, message repeats multiple times, post-tone. The number of times the message is to be repeated between
pre- and post tones can be specified when this sequence is selected.
MNS MESSAGE SCREEN TEXT

MNS Message Screen Text is 255 characters maximum, including spaces.

The MNS Message Screen Text auto-populates with the wording from the Audible MNS Message Wording section (up to
255 characters). Change this field if the number of characters in the audible message exceeds 255 characters. Wording
should be an “edited” version of the recorded audible message to get it below 255 characters.

You can change this field but the wording should be similar to the wording used in the audible MNS message.
MESSAGE CONTENT

Message content will play repeatedly until canceled or the programmed time-out has expired.
 The pre-tone, voice message, and post-tone constitute the entire message content.

• MESSAGE NAME
Enter up to 25 characters to indicate a name for the MNS Message that displays on the MAAP-X MNS touch screen.

• MESSAGE ICON - REFER TO PAGE 18 FOR ICON CHOICES

Enter a three-character numerical description to identify the icon that displays next to the Message Name button on the
MAAP-X MNS touch screen.

• MESSAGE VOICE TYPE

Click the Male or Female button to select the voice type for the pre-recorded Audible MNS Message.

• MESSAGE TONES - REFER TO PAGE 4 FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

To use the built-in 520 Hz Tone, do not fill out the Pre-Message or Post-Message section of this form.

Only fill out the Pre-Message and/or Post-Message section of this form if not using the built-in 520 Hz Tone.

• USE PRE-MESSAGE TONE? - REFER TO PAGE 19 FOR TONE CHOICES

Click the Yes button to indicate that you would like a tone to sound before the message.

If Yes is selected, fill out the next line indicating a Tone Name and either the Tone Duration or
Number of Rounds.

Click the No button to prevent a tone from sounding before the message.

• USE POST-MESSAGE TONE? - REFER TO PAGE 19 FOR TONE CHOICES

Click the Yes button to indicate that you would like a tone to sound after the message.

If Yes is selected, fill out the next line indicating a Tone Name and either the Tone Duration or
Number of Rounds.

Click the No button to prevent a tone from sounding after the message.

• AUDIBLE MNS MESSAGE RECORDING - REFER TO PAGE 4 FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Click the Yes button if you are providing Monaco with pre-recorded audio files. Required for all non-English languages.

Click the No button if you are not providing pre-recorded audio files.

• AUDIBLE MNS MESSAGE WORDING

Enter the wording to be played during the audible message. Monaco recommends limiting the length of the audible
message to one minute. Up to 255 characters of the wording message entered here are automatically entered in the
Audible MNS Screen Text section (below).

• AUDIBLE MESSAGE FORMAT

Select “Play pre-tone, message, post tone” for the Audible Message to play the pre-tone, message, post-tone sequence.
The sequence will continue until cancelled. Or,
Select “Play pre-tone, message repeats multiple times, post-tone” for the Audible Message to play the message more
than one time between the pre- and post-tones. Then, specify the number of times for the message to repeat between
pre- and post-tones. The sequence will continue until cancelled.

• MNS MESSAGE SCREEN TEXT

When the Audible MNS Message Wording section (above) is filled out, up to 255 characters of the message are
automatically entered here. If the wording is too long, over 255 characters, revise this field by entering different text that is
shorter but is as close as possible to the audible message. This message displays on the MAAP-X MNS touch screen when
the message is selected.
