GAUGE
20 sc + 20 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm).
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT.
STITCH EXPLANATION
sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all
3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.
TECHNIQUE EXPLANATION
Magic Ring: Wrap yarn around index finger. Insert hook in ring on finger, yarn over and draw up a loop.
Carefully slip ring from finger and work the sts of Rnd 1 in the ring.

ERICA THE DOLL
NOTES
1. Eric is worked in 9 pieces: 2 Arms, Legs-Body-Head, Hair, Pants, 2 Boots, Jacket, and Hat.
2. Arms are worked first and set aside. Legs-Body-Head beg by making 2 Legs that are joined together to
beg working body. When work reaches underarms, Arms are joined then neck and head are worked.
3. Legs-Body-Head, Arms, Hair, Boots, Pants and Hat are worked in continuous rnds (spiral). Do not join
last st of rnds to first st with a sl st. Do not turn at the beg of rnds, unless instructed.
4. Jacket is worked back and forth in rows.
5. To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw
through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new color. Cut old color.
6. Exact gauge is not essential for this project. We worked tightly with a small hook so that stuffing wouldn’t
show through.
SAFETY NOTE
If Eric is intended for a baby or child, be certain that all pieces have been very securely sewn together and
omit the button the Pants. Don’t leave a baby or child unattended with Eric!
ARMS (make 2)
With A, make a magic ring.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in ring; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: (Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice – you will have 8 sc in this rnd.
Rnds 3 and 4: Sc in each st around; change to B in last st of Rnd 4.
Rnd 5: With B, sc in each st around.
Rnds 6-16: With B, sc in each st around.
Fasten off.
Stuff the Arm.
Rep to make 2nd Arm.
LEGS-BODY-HEAD
First Leg
With A, make a magic ring.
Rnd 2: (Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) twice – 10 sc.
Rnds 3-21: Sc in each st around.
Fasten off. Stuff Leg.

2nd Leg
Make same as first leg; change to B in last st of last rnd and do NOT fasten off.
Stuff Leg.
Join Legs
Rnd 22: With B still attached to 2nd leg, ch 2 (for space between legs), beg in any st of last rnd of first leg, sc
in 10 sts of first leg; working in back bumps of ch-2 between legs, sc in next 2 ch; working in sts of 2nd leg, sc
in first st following chain between legs, sc in next 9 sts; working in ch-2 between legs, sc in next 2 ch – 24 sts.
Do NOT fasten off.
Body
Rnd 23: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts) twice – 28 sc.
Rnds 24 and 25: Sc in each st around – 28 sc.
Beg stuffing body and continue stuffing until piece is complete.
Rnd 26: * Sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog; rep from * around – 24 sc.
Rnd 27: Sc in each st around.
Join Arms
Rnd 35: Sc in next 6 sc, beg in any st of last rnd of one Arm, sc in 8 sts of Arm; sc in next 10 sts of body; beg
in any st of last rnd of 2nd Arm, sc in 8 sts of Arm; sc in last 4 sts of body – 36 sc.
Rnd 39: * Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog; rep from * around and change to A in last st – 18 sc.
Head
Rnd 40: With A, working in back loops only, * sc in next st, sc2tog; rep from * around – 12 sc.
Rnd 41: (Sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog) twice – 10 sc.
Rnd 43: Working in front loops only, 2 sc in each st around – 20 sc.
Rnd 44: * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 30 sc.
Rnd 45: * Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 40 sc.
Finish stuffing piece.

Rnd 58: * Sc in next st, sc2tog; rep from * around – 12 sc.
Rnd 59: * Sc2tog; rep from * around – 6 sc.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through top of sts of last rnd. Pull tail to close opening and knot
securely.
HAIR
With D, make a magic ring.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 16 sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 24 sc.
Rnd 14: Sc in next 9 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 9 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next 2
sts, sc in next 14 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing Hair to Head.
PANTS
First Leg
With C, ch 16;
Rnd 1: With C, ch 16, insert hook in first ch to form a ring and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through
both loops on hook (first sc completed), sc in next 15 ch; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral) – 16 sc.
Rnd 3: Working in front loops only, * sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 24 sc.
Rnds 4 and 5: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 13: (Sc in next 8 sts, sc2tog) twice – 18 sc.
Fasten off.

2nd Leg
Work same as first leg but do NOT fasten off.
Join Legs
Rnd 14: With yarn still attached to 2nd leg, beg in any st of last rnd of first leg, sc in next 15 sts of first leg,
leaving 3 sts unworked; sk next 3 sts of 2nd leg, sc in next 15 sts of 2nd leg – 30 sts.
Rnd 19: Sl st in each st around.
Fasten off.
JACKET
With E, beg at neck of Jacket, ch 17.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 16 sts.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, * dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around – 24 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 4: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, dc in next 3 sts, ch 4, sk next 4 sts, dc in next 10 sts, ch 4, sk next
4 sts, dc in next 3 sts – 16 dc and 2 ch-4 sps.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 3 sts, 4 sc in next ch-4 sp, sc in next 10 sts, 4 sc in next ch-4 sp, sc in next 3 sts
– 24 sts.
Row 6: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, dc in next 7 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 8 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc
in next 7 sts – 26 sc.
Row 8: Ch 2, turn, dc in each st across.
Edging: Do not turn, sc evenly spaced along side edge, 3 sc in corner; working along opposite side of
foundation ch, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in corner; sc evenly spaced along side edge.
Fasten off.

With E, make a magic ring.
Fasten off.
HAT
With E, make a magic ring.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 16 sc.
Rnd 12: (Sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog) 6 times, sc in next 36 sts – 66 sc.
Rnd 13: (Sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog) 6 times, * sc2tog; rep from * around – 42 sc.
Rnd 14: TURN, working in back loops only, sl st in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next
6 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sl st in next 27 sts – 54 sts.
Fasten off.

FINISHING
Using photograph as a guide and yarn tails still attached to pieces whenever possible, assemble Eric as
follows:
With black embroidery floss, embroider straight stitch eyes between Rnds 50 and 52, about 6 sts apart.
With A, embroider a straight stitch nose between Rnds 50 and 51.
With D, sew Hair to top of Head.
With C, sew the gap between the pant legs (crotch) closed. If desired sew small decorative button to front
of Pants.
Weave in ends.
