NOTES
1. Shawl is worked back and forth in rows from the lower point upwards.
2. Piece is worked in Garter st (k every st of every row) with columns of slip sts evenly spaced across.
Increases (yo) are worked at the beg and end of each RS row to shape Shawl.
3. Yarn color is changed following Stripe Sequence.
4. After Shawl is knit, crochet hook is used to work surface slip stitch stripes along the slip st columns to
create a plaid look.
5. With yarn in front (wyif) refers to the side of the work facing you as you work the row.
6. When you see ‘as established’ in the instructions, this means to continue in the current pattern st,
lining up sts as in previous rows.
7. Circular needle is used to accommodate sts. Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if
working with straight needles.

*Work 10 rows with A, and 2 rows with B; rep from * for Stripe Sequence.

FINISHING
Crochet Surface Slip Stitch Stripes
With B, work a crochet surface slip stitch stripe along each of the slip st columns.
Beg at leftmost slip st column. Hold yarn at back side (WS) of piece.
Insert hook from RS to WS through first slip st in column; leaving a long beg tail, yarn over and draw loop
through to RS (1 loop on hook), * insert hook from RS to WS through next slip st in same column, yarn
over and draw loop through to RS and through loop on hook (1 crochet surface slip st made); rep from *
all the way to the end of the column.
Fasten off.
Rep until crochet stripes have been made over each slip stitch column.

Fringe
Cut strands of A and B about 11in. (28 cm) long. For each fringe, hold 4 strands of the same color yarn
together and fold in half. Use crochet hook to draw fold through and eyelet (yo) along a diagonal edge of
piece, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten. Make a fringe in each eyelet
along both diagonal edges, alternating 4 A-colored fringes with 1 B-colored fringe, and using 4 strands of
yarn in each fringe.
Trim fringe evenly.
Weave in ends.
