BalancEd

INTRODUCTION

The average academic life of a university student is filled to the brim with variance in

academia, curriculums, risks, above all, real-life opportunities. University is the space

that brings, what previously was a disarrayed conundrum, turning into a shaped and

directed sail. To ensure a smooth-sailing functioning of such universities, the government

has introduced various educational policies, a hygiene code of conduct, helpful guidance

from external agencies like study apps, etc.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Although almost all universities keep a track of the performance of their students, how

many do we know target the improvement of their performances, inside and outside the

institution? Hence, an easily accessible administrative structure with a framework solely

dependent on assisting university students throughout their course of study in all aspects,

BalancEd is an app that will perform as a transactional platform, an academic assistant, as

well as a medical expert that will keep the network of students at a competent and healthy

level to enhance their university experience.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The findings of the study done by the National Institute of Health

[https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7372668/#ref11] showed the

prevalence of depression within the range of normal (25%), mild (16%), moderate
(35.8%), severe (14.6%), and extremely severe (8.6%). This is due to the lack of a system

that focuses on the inclusivity of mental and physical exertion commonly faced by

university students due to academic imbalance and pressure. Several small-scale steps

have been taken by remote bodies of faculty to curb this morbidity, but all in vain.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

The BalancEd app is a platform that will serve the purpose of keeping students in an

intact and interactive network that will consist of features powered by artificial

intelligence tools that will facilitate the individual needs of each student at a university.

Academic and health needs would be catered to via familiar templates that would be easy

to access.

BalancEd will have three key components:

1. Rental Platform: With a template like the widely used Amazon and Flipkart,

students within an organization can assist each other by renting academic

resources (notes, textbooks, reference materials) as well as personal resources

(dorm appliances, etc.). Due to the financial nature of such a transaction, there will

be fixed guidelines for both parties involved to avoid any nuisance. Using AI,

students will be alerted for the return of rented items 5 days before the designated

date to overcome any hassles.

2. College Podcast: Inspired by the idea of audiobooks, the availability of podcasts

on BalancEd will help students acquire knowledge of the majors, minors,

electives, and core subjects of their institution, along with the required

prerequisites beforehand. This will assist students in making the right and

proficient academic choices through a medium that can be accessed easily as well

as be interactive. Students, upon filling out a form, will also have access to a

customized list of podcast episodes, through the use of AI, that will cater to their

specific needs.

3. Health Tracker: As students are pre-acclimated to the functioning and purpose of

Fitbits and other health trackers, an in-built health tracker will additionally allow

the students to set health goals as well as connect them to an AI assistant that will

provide required medical assistance along with verified prescriptions. They will

also be able to access emergency first aid instructions if needed, notifying the

institution’s medical experts as well as emergency contacts immediately when

needed.

The above-mentioned features have familiar objectives as well as interactive

features that will not require excessive training and instructions to access.
STAKEHOLDERS AND BENEFICIARIES

The primary stakeholders and beneficiaries of this proposal will be:

1. Students: The student body across all universities will be the chief beneficiaries of

this project. This application will enhance their academic performance and general

well-being.

2. Universities: This app will help create a sense of community within the faculty

and students, increasing the average performance and functioning of the

institution.

3. App Developers: The individuals or team that will build the BalancEd application

and website will be the stakeholders for this project.

BUDGET AND FUNDING

A. BUDGET

1. App development and AI installment: The tentative costs vary from $25,000 to

$40,000.

2. Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Legal fees that will ensure privacy policy for

the application can cost from $500 to $3000.

3. Server and Hosting: The price of an app hosting server ranges from $70 per month

up to $320 per month.

B. FUNDING

1. Grants and Scholarships: Explore grants and scholarships offered by the

government focused on education, health, and technology.

2. Partnerships: Collaboration with other universities can benefit from

co-funding the application if they see potential in our project.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, BalancEd will enhance the university experience for students by a long

shot, as well as promote a sense of community by providing a hospitable environment for

students, catering to each individual’s needs. Interlinking the growing AI with students’

growing stressors, BalancEd aims to create an easily accessible and facilitating network

within the student body, promising to upgrade their overall performance and health. The

interested stakeholders will be updated on the primary motives of BalancEd and

accessibility for students, along with a pilot program for testing the effectiveness and

user-friendliness of the application. All decisions that are in favor of BalancEd, will be

planned to be implemented, being mindful of the timelines and responsibilities.
