THE LIFE IN THE WATER
"BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION, NOT A PART OF THE POLLUTION”
A. Background/Overview
A.1. Situation
The Pampanga River, which empties into Manila
Bay, has been polluted by more than 56,000
homes and businesses in Central Luzon.
The river's situation is
similar to other rivers across
the country.
Those of us who live in cities are fortunate to have access
to clean water, but we must not be complacent; rather, we
must seize this opportunity to change and put things right
for the better.

A.3. Review-Related Literature
The Pampanga River is the second biggest river on the
island of Luzon and the third largest river in the Philippines,
behind the Cagayan River. In central Luzon, the river flows

The Pampanga River, which empties into Manila Bay,
has been contaminated by thousands of homes and
commercial structures, claims the Philippines Daily Inquirer
(2019).
The Pampanga River can only carry a certain amount
of water at a time. The Pampanga River has had attempts to
lessen floods since 1939.

Fishing is a key component of the Pampanga River's

economic advantages. The river had diversity before it
was sacrificed for other objectives, and a type of fish that
was being caught was a "gourami."
A.4. Nature of the Program
This program aims to improve the water quality of
Pampanga River from being threatened by pollution from
garbage and other pollutants. It will be used for educational
purposes and it will propose various eco-friendly methods and
materials that can be used, as well as advocacy programs or
activities.

B.2 Rationale/Background

The Pampanga River

In the Philippines, there are mesmerizing
rivers. A river in Central Luzon, notably in
its eastern portion, encompasses 9, 759
square kilometers and runs through the
provinces of Quezon, Bulacan, Rizal,
Tarlac, Pampanga, and Nueva Ecija.
Furthermore, it is considered as the second-
largest river in Luzon and the country's
fourth-largest river, the Pampanga River.
Around 40% of the basin is covered by a reasonably level
valley floor, which is largely cultivated for the production
of rice and other crops. Mount Arayat is a major physical
feature in the basin's center section, rising approximately a
thousand meters above the surrounding ground.
In the Philippines, the Pampanga River Basin produces a
significant amount of paddy. The main factors influencing
the demand for agriculture in the basin are direct domestic,
municipal, industrial, and commercial operations, as well as
irrigation of agricultural land paired with multipurpose
dams.
The Pampanga River is the second biggest river
on the island of Luzon and the third largest river
in the Philippines, behind the Cagayan River. In
central Luzon, the river flows through the
provinces of Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan,
Tarlac, and Quezon.
