1. About Savonia's Data Administration


The main role of Savonia's Data Administration is to maintain, support and develop Savonia's
information systems and audiovisual devices. In addition to that, Data Administration design and
coordinate IT-related projects and offer IT-support and expert help for Savonia's staff and students. Data
Administration also purchase, test, standardize and take care of the life cycle of all the purchased
software and devices.

2. Learning platforms
2.1. Moodle
The online learning environment of Savonia is Moodle. Moodle is a free, an open source learning
platform, which is suitable for different user groups, for different applications. It is freely available and
can be downloaded from the original Moodle page, at http://moodle.org. Moodle provides tools for i.e.
interaction, content production and distribution of materials.

You login to Savonia Moodle with your username and password. Moodle can be found at the browser
address http://moodle.savonia.fi Remember to change your initial campus password before logging in
for the first time to Moodle.

Transferring to a Moodle course usually requires on your first user visit registration The key and link
required for registration to the course can be obtained from the teacher of each course. From the links
below you will find instructions on the use of Moodle.

2.2. OneDrive
At Savonia UAS, it is now possible to use Microsoft OneDrive for Business -cloud services to store and
share files with others. You can access the services by login into it with your Savonia ID.

Please use the login format similar to your email i.e. firstname.surname@edu.savonia.fi. The service can
be found at https://portal.microsoftonline.com. At the end of this page is a quick guide on OneDrive use.

It is also possible to install client- application and synchronize OneDrive or part of it to your personal
work stations, phones or tablets. In android device, client-app can be downloaded from the Play Store.
The application can be found at OneDrive by Microsoft Corporation. In iOS device, client-app can be
downloaded from the App Store, the software can be found at OneDrive for Business. In Lumia phones,
the client software is already installed.

2.3. Wilma
Wilma is a schedule programme, where ia. student personal timetables and Savonia classroom
reservations can be found. Login to Wilma with your own campus ID.

Study attainment register


Wilma is the students study attainment register, through which students can enroll as a students for the
academic year as well as enroll for certain courses and arrear exams. Here the student can also see the
completed courses with their grades. Some of the student's personal information is self-updateable
through Wilma.

Students use Wilma-study attaiment register with their Savonia network username and password, no
extra registeration for Wilma is needed.

2.4. Zoom
Zoom is a real-time, web-based meeting software. The use of Zoom requires connection to the Internet,
a working browser, headphones and a webcam.

A web camera and microphone,that allows for real-time image and audio transmission to all participants
of the meeting is usually used in the Zoom environment. There is also a possibility in the environment
for eg. chat, sharing of programmes as well as other joint working activities.

Students can participate in online lectures via Zoom in real time or watch afterwards the lectures
recorded earlier on the programme.

2.5. Blogs
Blogs are used for a variety of purposes: some blogs are created for the purpose of studying a course or
unit, some are project-specific, blogs can be student-specific (eg PLE, Personal Learning Environment), or
blogs are intended to communicate articles of a particular subject.

Savonia University of Applied Sciences uses the WordPress blog platform. The address of the blog server
is https://blogi.savonia.fi, which is logged in with the Savonia campus ID. Anyone in Savonia can set up
one or more blogs. The use of the blog will be introduced as the studies progress.

3. Learning environment
3.1. BYOD
You can use your own computer or mobile device in any of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences
learning areas and connect to the Savonia Wireless (WLAN) network with this device. Study-related
services are available online. Bring your own device (BYOD) allows you to use your computer, mobile
device and Savonia ICT services in a variety of learning situations.

3.2. Exam room


Savonia University of Applied Sciences has electronic exam rooms in Iisalmi, Kuopio and Varkaus. In
Exam room, you can attend the exam at a time chosen by the student in the time window specified by
the teacher for each exam. Exam rooms are equipped with recording camera surveillance. The recording
contains both video and audio. Recordings will be reviewed as necessary.

3.3. Hybrid classroom


Traditionally, students are physically in the same classroom as the teacher. Today, students are
increasingly participating in learning situations via the web, such as Zoom lectures. Remote participants
or satellite point students should be considered as well as those physically studying in the same space.
Savonia University of Applied Sciences has built some Hybrid learning spaces that make it easier for
remote participants to take part in a learning event. The hybrid room features high-quality cameras, a
microphone system covering the entire space, a separate back screen with remote participants as part
of the learning room, BYOD, and each participant in the learning event can display a screen shot from
their own computer or mobile device.

In addition to the hybrid learning space, there are a few webinar spaces equipped with the same
equipment as the hybrid learning space, but this physical space can accommodate only one or two
people. A typical usage situation is that the teacher is in contact with a satellite point during the learning
event. In addition to the hybrid learning rooms, almost every learning rooms helps remote and satellite
point participants to be present at the learning event. The learning rooms is equipped with a lighter
microphone system, speakers, camera and Zoom operation.

4. Studying outside the Savonia Campus


Most of the learning takes place, for example, at the student's home or workplace. For example, a
student can use a remote desktop to use almost the same information systems as he or she would use in
the physical learning space of an educational institution. Using systems remotely is part of the study
orientation at the beginning of studies. Savonia Remote Desktop can be used at
