This is one of the English assignments. It is making a text report about research from various
sources. This is not a perfect research report so the writer expects the critic and suggestion in

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Research Background


This report is motivated by the rapid growth of online shopping behavior among
Vocational High School (SMK) students. Technological developments and easy access to the
internet have fueled the online shopping trend among them. This report focuses on the results
of a case study that aims to identify the factors that influence vocational school students’
online shopping behavior and analyze the impact on various aspects of their lives, including
finances and consumption patterns. By better understanding this phenomenon, it is hoped that
this report will provide valuable insights for readers interested in this topic.

1.2. Research Purposes


Based on the formulation of the problem presented above, the objectives of this study are:
1. To determine the influence of risk perceptions (financial risk, product risk, non-
delivery risk, infrastructure, return policy) on consumer attitudes.
2. To find out the effect of attitudes on buying interest in online shops for vocational
students as consumers.

1.3. Research Benefits


The benefits of research regarding the impact of online shopping on vocational school
students are as follows:

1. Understanding Impact: This research can provide a deeper understanding of how


online shopping affects vocational school students cognitively, socially and
economically.
2. Educational Recommendations: The results of the research can provide
recommendations to schools and teachers regarding how to manage online shopping
time so that it does not interfere with students' academic
3. Parental Awareness: This research can raise parents' awareness about the influence of
online shopping on their children and help them take appropriate action.
4. Increasing Digital Literacy: The results of the research can be the basis for developing
better digital literacy programs for vocational school students.

1.4. Research Methods
Research methods that can be used in this research include:
1. Survey: Using sources to collect data from vocational school students regarding
online shopping behavior, its frequency and impact.
2. Case Study: Involving several vocational school students to monitor the impact of
online shopping in more detail.
3. Literature Review: Review previous research to understand previous findings and
relevant frameworks.
4. Observation: Make direct observations of student behavior regarding the use of
devices during the learning process.

2.1. Online Shopping


a. Understanding Online Shopping
Online Shopping or online shopping is a form of electronic commerce that is used for
seller-to-seller or seller-to-consumer transaction activities. Tools that are connected to the
internet with various media such as; computers, laptops, cellphones and others.
b. Factors Using Online Shopping
1. Convenience: students don't have to struggle with traffic to get to the store.
2. Information Completeness: Students can interact with seller sites to search for
information, products or services that students want, then order information on the spot.
3. Time students can check prices and order merchandise 24 hours a day from anywhere.
4. Consumer trust: security of goods delivery, confidentiality of personal data including
credit card use.

2.2. Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Shopping


a. The advantages of online shopping include:
1. Many choices of online stores that provide the variety of products
2. Save time and energy, no need to go around the mall or shop, just spend time by opening
the internet.
3. Can compare products and prices with other online stores, so there are more choices.
4. Easy shopping process

b. Disadvantages of online shopping:


1. Fraudulent goods are often not sent after payment or money transfer.
2. Physical and quality of goods do not match the photos on the website.
3. Cannot see and try the ordered items directly.
4. It takes time for the goods to arrive.

2.3. The Positive and Negative Impact of Online Shopping
a. Positive Impact of Online Shopping:
1. Independent Learning Abilities: Students can develop independent learning skills in
searching for information, comparing products, and making decisions.
2. Critical Thinking Skills: They can cultivate critical thinking skills in assessing the
reliability of online sellers and the products they offer.
3. Adaptability Skills: Online shopping teaches students to adapt to technology, which is
a valuable skill in the digital age.

b. Negative Impact of Online Shopping:


1. Learning Distractions: Excessive online shopping can disrupt the time that should be
devoted to studying and school assignments.
2. Financial Insecurity: Students may face financial risks if they don't manage their budget
effectively while shopping online.
3. Online Insecurity: Security risks such as fraud and the leakage of personal information
can undermine the online shopping experience.
4. Social Impact: Spending too much time online can reduce real-world social
interactions, which are important for social development in students.

3.1. Suggestion
1. Education about Online Safety: Students need to understand the risks associated
with online shopping and how to protect their personal information.
2. Online Shopping Time Limits: Set reasonable time limits for students to shop online.
Too much time spent shopping online can disrupt their focus on studies.

3.2. Conclusion
Online shopping has both positive and negative impacts on vocational school students.
Better education and supervision is needed to ensure students can shop wisely and safely,
maintaining balance with their academic development.
