EVALUATION:

1. What is ALS?

Alternative Learning System of ALS is a parallel learning system in the


Philippines that provides a practical option to the existing formal instruction.
When one does not have or cannot access formal education in schools,
ALS is an alternate or substitute. ALS includes both the non-formal and
informal sources of knowledge and skills.

ALS is open for 18 and above students / undergraduate or unfinished high


schools.

2. Who are the clienteles of ALS?

• An elementary level dropout at least 11 years old on or before October 5,


2008
• A high school dropout at least 15 years old on or before October 5, 2008
• Non-passers of previous ALS A&E Tests
• Youth and adults although in-school but overaged for Grade 6 (more than
11 years)
or for 4th year (more than 15 years)
Others (at least basically literate) who may be:
- unemployed/underemployed OSYs and adults
- elementary and secondary school drop-outs/leavers
- industry-based workers, housewives, maids, factory workers, drivers
- members of cultural minorities/indigenous peoples (IPs)
- persons with disabilities (PWDs)/physically challenged
- inmates, rebel/soldier integrees
Most of these target learners live below the poverty line, predominantly
coming from depressed, disadvantaged, underserved communities.

3. Give ALS programs and describe each.

One is the Basic Literacy Program and the other is the Continuing
Education Program – Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E). Both programs
are modular and flexible. This means that learning can take place anytime
and any place, depending on the convenience and availability of the
learners.

4. What are the areas of learning in ALS?

The ALS Program focuses on the following Learning Strands:


 Communication Skills (English and Filipino)
 Scientific Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills.
 Mathematical and Problem Solving Skills.
 Life and Career Skills.
 Understanding the Self and Society.
 Digital Literacy.
