Chapter 3

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, sampling method and

techniques, instrumentation, research methods and procedures, and data analysis

used in this study. It also includes Ethical considerations dealing with human

participants, vertebrate animals, potentially hazardous biological agents, and

hazardous activities and devices.

Research Design

The researchers will employ qualitative and descriptive research methods.

According to Helen L. Dulock, descriptive research have been identified is

the literature to describe systematically and accurately the facts and

characteristics of the given population or area of interest, It also provides an

accurate portrayal or account of characteristic of a particular individual, situation

or group. These studies are a means of discovering new meaning, describing

what exists, with which something occurs and/or categorizing information. It

portrays the characteristics of persons, situation, or groups and the frequency with

which certain phenomenon occur, these studies observe, describe, and document

aspect of a situation as it naturally occurs, to discover associations or

relationships between or among selected to answer questions based on the

ongoing events of the presents.

Sampling Technique and Procedures

The researcher will employ purposive sampling technique in locating the students

in ICT 11-1 in the selected locales, respectively.

According to Steve Campbell (2020), purposive sampling technique is a

simple and straightforward sampling method. The reason for purposive sampling

is the better matching of the sample to the aims and objectives of the research,

thus improving the rigour of the study and trustworthiness of the data and results.

It is relevant to those people that is connected to the topic of the research, that is

why purposive sampling is used to those small group that is selected as a

representative for this study.

Instrumentation

The factors of choosing ICT strand despite having unrelated specialization

during grade 9 and 10 in ICT 11-1 study include only interviews. Having conduct

of interviews, The researchers made a letter of permission, informed consent

forms, and a structured questionnaire with open-ended questions. A pen and a

notebook will be used for listing down important ideas in their statements and an

audio recorder for a record of their response. The key informants will be informed

about the audio recording prior to the interview for ethical compliance.
Data Gathering Procedures

Interview on ICT Students, Adjustments and Knowledge

Permission from the participants and respected teachers of Palawan National

School will be sought before the interview. A structured interview guide will be created

prior to the interview. A Human Informed Consent form will be signed by the

participants who will be selected through Purposive Sampling. Written and audio

records of their respective responses will be kept with their consent.

Data Analysis

Qualitative Descriptive Analysis

This analysis started by conducting descriptive analysis to summarize and explore

your data. This could involve calculating frequencies, percentages, and measures of

central tendency for different variables. Consider summarizing the distribution of

unrelated specializations and the factors influencing students' choice of the ICT

strand.

Risk and Safety

There is no risk on conducting this research study and we made sure that all of
the information that they gave are highly confidential.
Ethical Considerations

In order to address ethical considerations, the researchers will ask initially for

the consent of the school principal to conduct a research study in ICT 11-1, and the

local interviewees will be selected fairly. The use of offensive, discriminatory, and

derogatory language will be avoided in the formulation of the interview guide.

Furthermore, the researchers will provide equitable treatment to the respondents

before, during and after the interview.

Human Participants

An investigation to the respondents will be conducted through an interview to

determine the factors of choosing the ICT strand. The key informants of the study will

be the ICT Students in Palawan National School, Puerto Princesa City. The age of

the respondents will range from 16-18 years old. The participants will be selected by

purposive sampling considering the criteria set by the researchers (1) ICT Student (2)

Having a different specialization, (3) Willingness, (4) Communicability and (5)

Impartiality. Approval from the respected teachers will be secured prior to any

interaction with human participants. A structured interview guide formulated in two

languages: Filipino and English will be prepared for the various respondents. The

purpose, benefits and risks associated with the involvement in the study will be

explained to the key informants. The researchers will guarantee that their participation

is voluntary and they have the rights to refuse and withdraw. They will be also

assured that their privacy is of paramount importance and their personal information
will be kept in full confidentiality. The chosen respondents shall provide their informed

consent with no coercion from the researchers.
