Abstract:
This comprehensive report encapsulates the findings and observations made during the
enlightening study tour undertaken by the 21st Batch of the Civil Engineering Department from
Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) SZAB Khairpur Mirs to the
construction site of the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill
Development (BBSUTSD). This tour aimed to delve into the intricacies of the ongoing
construction processes, with a particular focus on the Main Entrance Gate and the Department
Building.

1. Introduction:
The journey began on Thursday ( 20-Nov-2023) with a group photograph capturing the
anticipation and enthusiasm of the students and faculty. Subsequently, the group embarked on a
shuttle journey to the BBSUTSD site, setting the stage for an insightful exploration of the
construction endeavors.

2. Sites/ Objectives:
The objectives of our trip are to survey of main Gate of BBSUTSD, Their
department construction work, interior class room structure and roofting at the site.

2.1 Gate:
Upon arrival at the site, the study tour commenced with an in-depth analysis of the Main
Entrance Gate, currently in the early stages of construction. The construction team facilitated a
detailed walkthrough of the project, shedding light on the architectural drawings generated
through ETABS Software. These drawings meticulously outlined the specifics of the gate,
including the dimensions of the C8 columns (36 inches by 50 inches) and the incorporation of a
raft foundation with a 1.5-inch concrete cover. The team also elucidated the use of steel bars and
the provision of a starter post plinth level. This phase set the groundwork for a thorough
exploration of the broader construction activities within the departmental premises.
2.2 Department:
Delving into the foundation aspects, the report highlighted the challenges posed by the irregular
surface of the DPC and Plinth level in the department building. Foundation walls were initially
constructed and subsequently filled with soil, paving the way for the initiation of the construction
process. The study tour also provided valuable insights into the construction of lintels, offering
an understanding of their role in the overall structural framework.

2.2.1 Curing Practices:

The report delves into the critical aspect of curing, detailing the methods employed to enhance
the strength and durability of the structures. Columns were meticulously covered with Gani bags
to counter the impact of heat, while spray curing techniques were employed for the interior
walls, showcasing a commitment to quality construction practices.
2.2.1 Brick Masonry:
An exploration of the construction site revealed the use of English Bond Masonry for walls and
partitions. This method, acknowledged for its efficacy in achieving high strength, adds a layer of
structural integrity to the ongoing construction.
2.3 Interior Rooms and Architecture:
Detailed descriptions were provided regarding the interior rooms, offering insights into their
dimensions and designs. The report applauds the meticulous attention given to ventilation,
contributing to an environment conducive to learning. Furthermore, the architecture of the
classrooms was appraised for its aesthetic appeal, emphasizing a harmonious blend of
functionality and visual appeal.
2.3.1Ventilation Systems:
A dedicated section of the report focuses on the meticulous approach to ventilation within the
construction site. The study tour observed and acknowledged the implementation of robust
ventilation systems in each classroom and office space, ensuring optimal airflow to prevent any
sense of suffocation and foster a comfortable educational environment.
2.4 Roofting:
The ongoing construction of the department building, currently standing at G+1, revealed several
noteworthy elements. A parapet wall, meticulously crafted for both aesthetic appeal and
functional purposes, caught our attention. The incorporation of #8 steel in the parapet wall
exemplifies a commitment to robust construction practices.

The utilization of mason scaffolding techniques was observed, underscoring a methodical

approach to ensuring the safety and efficiency of the construction process. The presence of a
concrete mixing machine, operating at a precise ratio of 1:2:4, was noted. This mixture was then
strategically placed atop the building to fill the roof of the first story.

A closer look at the roof revealed the intricate process of bar bending for the slabs, illustrating
how steel is meticulously integrated into beam connections, contributing to the overall structural
stability
3.Conclusion:
In the end, our study trip was like a special part of our learning adventure. We learned a lot about
buildings, like how they're made with bricks and steel, and how architects plan them. The place
we visited, BBSUTSD, was still being built, but even in the early stages, it showed us how
important teamwork, careful planning, and doing things really well are for construction. When
we left, we felt smarter and amazed, and we now understand better how science and art work
together to create places where we can learn. The trip gave us a hands-on experience and tons of
information about the ongoing construction at BBSUTSD. The things we saw and learned are
now part of our knowledge about how buildings are made, and this report adds a lot to what we
know from our classes.
