PHYSICS ASSIEGNMENT

Prepared by mr Anteneh .
1. A 1.34kg ball is attached to a rigid vertical rod by means of two massless strings each 1.70m long.
The strings are attached to the rod at points 1.70m apart. The system is rotating about the axis of
the rod, both strings being taut and forming an equilateral triangle with the rod as shown in the
figure below. The tension in the above string is 35N. Then

A. Find the tension in the lower string

B. Calculate the net force on the ball at the instant shown
C. What is the speed of the ball

2. A disc of mass m on a frictionless table is attached to a hanging

Cylinder of mass M by a cord through a hole in the table. Find the speed
with which the disc must move in a circle of radius r for the cylinder to stay
at rest?
3. Two cars A and B slide on an icy road as they attempt to stop at a traffic
light. The mass of A is 1100kg and the mass of B is 1400kg. The coefficient
of kinetic friction b/n the locked wheels of both cars and the road is 0.13.
Car A succeeds in coming to rest at the light , but car B cannot stop and rear
ends car A. After the collision , A comes to rest 8.2m a head of the impact
point and B 6.1m ahead : see the figure below
A. from the distances each car moved after the collision , find the speed of
each car immediately after impact
B. Use conservation of momentum to find the speed at which car B struck
car A.

4. Find the tension on the string if a 200N load suspended on a 100N uniform bar
as shown below.
5. A wheel of mass 4kg and radius 60cm is rotating with an angular
acceleration of 5rad/s2 . Then find
A. The Torque on the wheel
B. The force acting on the wheel if it acts at half of the radius
6. find the support A if a 100N load is suspended on a 10m long uniform bar of
mass 20kg as shown below.
7. A 20gm bob attached at the end of 20cm rope rotated with an angular
acceleration of 1rad/s2 . If the rope can stand maximum of tension 200N , what is
A. the number of revolution that the bob can make
B. The time taken till the rope reaches its maximum tension
