Linseo, Duke Briseo at Adolfo.
ENGLISH VERSION
In the middle of a vast forest outside the kingdom of Albania crossed by the
poisonous river Kosito, a poor man was chained to a fig tree. She is Florante,
daughter of Duke Briseo and Princess Floresca. Florante is slowly dying because the
forest is simply terrifying. Wild animals roam here, the chirping of birds is
heartbreaking and the huge trees are truly awe-inspiring.
By chance, a Persian Moor came to Florante's place. This is Aladin, son of Sultan
Ali-adab, who went far away from his own country because of his resentment for his
father's usurpation of his girlfriend, Flerida. Aladin heard all of Florante's
laments about her hardships and he was deeply moved. He traced the source of the
voice and saw two lions ready to kill Florante. Aladin quickly killed the lions. He
untied Florante and forced himself to caress her. Since it was already getting
dark, Aladin took Florante to the place where he entered the forest and there he
watched over her all night. The next day they both talked.
Florante told the story of his life. He is said to have been gifted, from
childhood, with royal qualities; he tells how a vulture almost snatched him if his
cousin Menalipo, who was from Epirus, had not shot it; he also mentions the
delivery of an arkon bird to his breast with a diamond cupid. He was sent to Athens
to study there. Here he met Adolfo, son of Count Sileno who was also from Albania,
who was admired by teachers and classmates because of his intelligence and
exemplary behavior and speech. Florante was only eleven years old then and Adolfo
was thirteen; but during six years of diligent study, Florante surpassed Adolfo in
wisdom and skill. It wasn't long before Adolfo's natural personality came out. He
hated Florante's victories. That's why in a staged play, instead of following the
demands of the role, he witnessed stabbing Florante. Fortunately, he was saved by
Menandro, the nephew of his teacher, Antenor. The next day, Adolfo was sent home to
Albania.
Florante stayed another year in Athens. Meanwhile, he receives bad news from his
father that his beloved mother has died. Even though he was carrying a lot of
resentment, he waited for his father's decision. A letter arrived only two months
later saying that Florante had returned home to Albania.
King Linseo summoned Duke Briseo to Albania because the kingdom of Krotona was
attacked by the Persian General Osmalik's army. When King Linseo first met
Florante, he immediately asked who Florante was. He said that he dreamed of the man
who would lead the Albanian army against the enemy and that he looked exactly like
Florante. The Duke introduced his son to the king. The leaders met and it was
decided that Florante would lead the Albanian army. Meanwhile, in the palace, the
young man's heart was stirred by the king's beautiful daughter, Laura. Florante
stayed three days in the palace; but Laura only became his girlfriend after he
left. This buried a tear as a sign of his love for the young man.
Florante met the enemies; Florante and Osmalik fought for five hours. Not long
after, the body of the savage Persian was presented. Florante stayed another five
months in Krotona. He longed for Laura so much that he hurried back to Albania.
Upon his arrival, he was greatly surprised to see that the flag of the Moors was
already waving in the kingdom of Albania. He immediately halted his army at the
foot of a mountain. He saw here a woman who was about to cut off the head of her
enemies. He quickly rescued the persecuted. How amazed everyone was when they saw
the woman: Laura! The enemy's army, led by Aladin, ran. Floranate's palace was
recovered and the prisoners were rescued: King Linseo, Duke Briseo and Adolfo.
No sooner had the kingdom of Albania been pacified than another army attacked; this
is the army led by Miramolin. In a bloody fight, Florante defeated the opponents.
But another army after another tried to attack the kingdom. They were seventeen in
all; and they were all defeated by Florante!
While Florante was in Aetolia, he received a letter from the Albanian monarch
saying that he needed to return to Albania. Florante was shocked when he arrived.
Thirty thousand armed men seized him and quickly pressed him into prison. He didn't
know that in Adolfo's plans he had killed the beloved king even Duke Briseo and was
the one who usurped the throne. Florante was imprisoned for thirteen days; then he
was ordered to be chained in the middle of the terrible forest so that he could be
eaten by wild animals. He had been in that forest for two days.
Aladin narrated his experiences. He is the son of the legendary Sultan Ali-adab. He
ended up in the forest because of a strong grudge against his father. His
girlfriend, Flerida, was tried to be taken away from him by his own father. In the
intensity of the sultan's desire, he looked for a reason to possess the girl.
Through investigation, he discovers that Aladin went to Persia and left his army in
Albania. So when Florante seized Albania and you discovered that Aladin had
retreated from the battle, Sultan Ali-adab considered it a sin, and condemned his
own son to be beheaded. But that same night, Aladin received a message that he was
being exiled to another land. The order was that he should not return to Persia if
he wished to live. His tour spans six years now.
While Florante and Aladin were talking, they overheard the conversation of two
people. One recounts how he found out that his girlfriend in prison was going to be
killed. Because of this she agreed to marry the king. The imprisoned boyfriend was
released. That night he escaped disguising himself as a warrior. It has been
wandering for many years now, until the two meet in this place. Meanwhile, Florante
and Aladin slowly approached the conversation. How happy they were when they saw
that the conversation was none other than Laura and Flerida!
Laura tells what happened to her. He tells how Adolfo usurped the throne, how the
king was beheaded. He also said that he sent a letter to Florante in Aetolia to
inform him of what was happening in Albania but it did not reach Florante.
Meanwhile, Adolfo's five-month relationship with Laura was over so he could study
her love offering. There is no way left for Adolfo to seduce Laura; so in the dead
of night he forced her to take him to the forest to be defamed there. He, on the
other hand, arrived at Flerida's forest. It saw the perversion of Adolfo. Adolfo
was killed instantly with a spear.
While the four were exchanging their experiences, Menander arrived, accompanied by
the entire Albanian army. They are looking for Adolfo to restore the former
tranquility of Albania. The whole army shouted for joy when everyone saw that
Florante and Laura were alive. They all cheered the couple. Afterwards they
returned rejoicing to the palace. Florante and Laura were soon married. Florante
was made king of Albania; Laura, the queen. Aladin and Flerida were united after
being baptized to become full Christians. They both returned to Persia when Sultan
Ali-adab died, and there they ruled their own kingdom.
Adolfo at Laura.
kaya’s may nakalimutan.
74 – Maya-maya’y sumandal siya. Patuloy pa rin ang kanyang mga luha. Nagsalita
move-on.”
Bigla
siyang may narinig na buntong hininga.
156 – Tahimik sina Aladin at Florante. Para silang hinimatay, hanggang lumubog ang
araw.
(My one and only
special flower.)
Or dahil sobrang kinis ng
si Florante dun sa malaking bahay na kinta (or villa, in English, quinta in
Spanish) nila sa bundok, may pumasok na ibon. Yung buwitre ay may sensitibong pang-
amoy.
distansiya ng is legwas ay tatlong milya (miles) or 4.828 kilometros.
NOTE: The Hearts and Arrows Diamong Cut involves precision cutting. It is
symmetrical.
May laruang
siyang pulad (quiver of the arrow), o yung balahibo ng manok o ibon na inilalagay
nila.
192 – Kapag nagsawa na si Florante sa laruan niyang busog (bow… as in bow and
Kakaiba
bathin o tiisin yung hilahil, kahirapan, o gulo.
May pag-asa kang gawin
(Pittacus of Mytilene – considered as one of the Seven Sages of Greece).
27 – In the midst of Florante's poverty, the memory of Laura keeps him alive.
28 – Florante will be very happy as long as Laura thinks about him. It's just that,
he was very sad because of the betrayal.
31 – Florante says what is love for, now that Laura is quiet and with someone else.
32 – Florante wants to die because he thinks of Count Adolfo and Laura embracing
each other.
34 – The marks of torture can be seen all over Florante's body. (Have you ever
cried and cried? Don't you have many red dots on your face? What if your whole body
is like that?)
35 – And when Florante is seen by the most violent punisher, he will take pity on
Florante's appearance.
36 - Even those whose eyes are dry from crying, will cry again if they see
Florante.
37 – Whoever hears the cries and sounds coming from Florante will feel deep pity.
38 – Florante's grunts were heard throughout the forest. The only answers to him
are echoes.
39 – Florante asks the air why Laura has forgotten their love.
40 – Florante scolds Laura for the curse of their love. Florante became an idiot.
He never thought that this would happen to them. He never thought that the day
would come when Laura would betray him.
41 – Florante thought that his and Laura's love was complete. He didn't think that
despite Laura's beauty, there was hidden betrayal.
42 – Florante didn't think that the tears that Laura cried before were useless.
43 – Florante remembered that when Laura made a symbol for him before, Laura's eyes
were very alive.
44 – Florante remembers when Laura made her plumage (for the head/helmet).
45 - Florante remembered the many times before when Laura reached for Florante's
scarf, wet with Laura's tears because she was worried about Florante's welfare in
the war.
46 – Laura used to look at Florante's armor, and it might have rust. Laura doesn't
want Florante's clothes to get dirty.
47 – When Laura looks from afar at the army, she is looking for Florante.
49 – And when Florante returns from the war, Laura is still restless.
50 – Laura is afraid that Florante might have a wound that she didn't see and wash
it.
51 - And if something bothers Florante, Laura will ask what that thing is. And
while he didn't fully understand it, he would kiss Florante repeatedly on the
cheek.
53 – Laura will put the beautiful flowers around Florante's neck. And Laura will
not stop until she gets rid of whatever is causing Florante sadness.
54 – And if Florante is still sad, Laura will cry. Florante is now looking for
Laura's former love.
59 – And if Laura can even look at Florante, Laura can prolong Florante's life.
61 – That's all, for Florante, Laura doesn't exist. For Florante, Laura betrayed
him.
63 – It is said that Florante has no friends. And his beloved Laura forgot him.
66 - It is said that Florante will even thank Count Adolfo, if all torture is done
to Florante, just don't steal Laura's heart.
73 – He holds his chin and senses. It seems that someone is deep in thought, or
maybe someone has forgotten.
74 – After a while he leaned back. Her tears are still flowing. He spoke: Flerida,
the joy is over. (NOTE: He has been walking everywhere outside of Persia for six
years. He can't move on.)
75 – Aladin keeps saying “Ay! Oh!” in the forest He can't really move on."
76 – He stood up suddenly, looking angry, and hurriedly searched for his weapons.
He said he could not agree.
77 – And if someone else (other than her father) steals her Flerida, she will kill
him.
78 – Aladin mentions Mars and the Parcae. There is a god/goddess connected to war
and death. Aladin was very angry.
79 – Aladin says that he will take Flerida back from the clutches of treachery, and
everyone he comes across (except her father) he will kill.
81 – When it comes to love, forget about respect for the greatest (God?), reason,
right thinking, duty, and even life.
82 – Aladin says not to imitate him. But he had no one to talk to in the jungle.
83 – Aladin stabs his weapon into the ground. Cry and cry. Suddenly he heard a
sigh. It turned out to be Florante, still tied to the tree.
86 – Aladin hears someone asking why his father left him an orphan.
87 – Florante thinks about how his father suffered at the hands of traitors.
88 – Florante also thought about how severe the punishment Count Adolfo imposed on
Florante's father.
90 – Florante thinks of the mangled corpse of his father, who was not even given a
decent burial.
91 – Florante thinks of his father's old friends who have moved to traitor groups.
He also thought about his friends, but was afraid to touch his father's body and
they might be punished too.
92 – Florante seems to hear how his father prayed to protect Florante from harm.
93 – His father also asked that Florante be left under the corpses on the
battlefield, without Count Adolfo desecrating his lips.
94 – Florante says that his father's prayers were not fulfilled. His father was
still cut.
95 – Florante remembers her father's love for her. Florante started crying.
99 – Aladin wondered when he would be moved to tears for love and pity for his own
father.
100 – Aladin is in tears because of the theft of his beloved Flerida, while here is
Florante, crying because of the loss of a loving father.
101 – Aladain thought that if his tears were for his lost father, he was blessed
with sweet tears.
102 – But Aladin's tears were because of anger, and not because of his father's
love.
103 – Aladin calls his father's love treachery. And here is Aladin, drowning in
poverty.
105 – Aladin hears Florante mention Laura's name. Florante is saying goodbye and it
looks like he's going to die.
106 – Florante also said that Laura would be happy with Count Adolfo.
108 – Two lions approached Florante. They suddenly stopped near him.
109 – They looked like they felt sorry for Florante at first.
110 – What was going through Florante's mind as he looked at the two lions?
111 – The poet cannot speak. He felt very sorry for Florante.
112 – What person with a heart would not feel sorry for Florante's condition?
113 – Florante feels that he is about to die. Even though he couldn't understand
what he was saying, it was clear in Florante's mind that the end was near.
117 – From his youth, Florante wanted nothing but to defend Albania.
119 – However, Florante still loves Laura very much, despite everything.
120 – I hope the violent Adolfo and the traitor to Laura will be happy. Florante is
really bitter here.
121 – They say that their relationship is complete, now and Florante is in front of
the fierce death.
122 – Who else can worry about him, thought Florante.
124 - I hope that along with Florante's tears, her soul and blood will also come
out of her eyes.
125 – Florante cries not for himself, but for his and Laura's failed love.
126 – Aladin looked for where the voice was coming from. He used his weapon to cut
down those who blocked his path in the jungle.
127 – Aladin continued to use his chalice, until he found the source of the cries.
128 – Maybe it was around five in the afternoon when Aladin saw Florante.
132 – The appearance of lions is described here. They are compared to the Furies.
135 – Aladin used his shield and chalice to overcome the lions.
136 – Aladin sheds tears as he removes Florante's ropes. Florante passed out.
137 – Aladin felt sorry as he saw the blood flowing from Florante's wounds.
140 – When he saw Florante's face, Aladin thought that their situations were
similar.
141 – Aladin also notices Florante's elegance. They are both alike.
144 – Florante asks Laura not to forget him. Florante closed her eyes. Aladin was
silent.
145 – Aladin doesn't want Florante to be surprised and she might die. Aladin waited
first.
146 – When Florante woke up again, he was surprised to find himself in Moro.
Florante tried to get up, but he couldn't. He went to bed angry.
148 – Aladin admits that even if Florante doesn't want him, he can't let Florante
die.
149 – Aladin sees Florante in Florante's clothing as being from Albania. Aladin is
from Persia. The two kingdoms are enemies. But in Florante's condition, they are
friends, said Aladin.
150 – Aladin is a moron, but he is also human. He feels in his heart that according
to the law of nature, it is necessary to help those who are struggling.
151 – What else would Aladin do when he heard Florante's screams and cries? He was
also seen bound and about to be devoured by lions.
152 – Florante admits that if Aladin had not helped him, he would probably be among
the lions.
153 – And Florante was at peace. Because he knew that Albanians and Persians were
against each other, but Aladin still helped him.
154 – Florante says she doesn't need Aladin's mercy. But I wish he was just killed,
because Florante is looking for death.
155 – When Aladin heard this, he cried out loud, wept, and fell on his knees.m
156 – Aladin and Florante are silent. They seemed to faint, until the sun went
down.
157 – When Aladin saw that it was getting dark, he picked up Florante and she
returned to the forest where she came from.
159 – Aladin tries to feed Florante. And even though Florante refused, he calmly
encouraged him to eat.
160 – Florante became weak (nagaus) from extreme hunger (dayukdok). Then,
accidentally fell asleep in Aladin's womb (between the lap and navel or belly-
button).
161 – Florante slept (lightly) all night, while Aladin did not sleep all night.
Aladin was worried that an animal might come and bite Florante.
162 – Florante wakes up and moans often. Her every cry seemed to stab Aladin's
merciful heart.
163 – At dawn, when it was still very dark, Florante slept soundly. Everything was
quiet, until dawn (sunrise).
164 – Florante gets stronger. What are the five diseases? The 5 senses.
sense of sight: sight
sense of smell: smell
sense of taste
sense of hearing: hearing
sense of touch
165 – So when the sun's rays spread, Florante slowly got up, thanking Heaven for
returning strength to his body.
166 – Aladin is overjoyed, and embraces Florante. If Aladin then wept for pity, now
he wept for joy (tears of joy).
167 – Balagtas cannot adequately describe Florante's gratitude. It was just that,
when Florante got up, he remembered his beloved Laura, and Florante felt a great
sadness again.
168 – When you can take a break from the pain caused by love, when the pain comes
back, it's even more intense. The pain is doubled.
169 – Before joy could heal Florante's wounded heart, the old pain reappeared. It
was like a knife that stuck deep into Florante's heart.
170 – Florante accepted his suffering, while at the same time saying that he could
no longer bear the loss of his beloved. Aladain tries to lighten Florante's mood.
171 – Aladin tells Florante that Florante has seen how Aladin can worry about him.
So don't worry Florante and Aladin will find a solution.
172 – Florante says to Aladin – not only the cause of the pain of my feelings, but
the source of my life itself (Florante refers to Laura).
173 – The two sat under the tree. Florante tells Aladin his life, from the
beginning to the point where his fate turned bad (he became blind).
174 – Florante says he was born in Albania, in a duchy (dukedom) or duke's family.
Duke Briseo is Florante's father.
176 – Florante feels that if he had been born in Krotona (his mother's city),
instead of in Albany (his father's town), Florante would have been happier.
177 – Florante relates that his father Duke Briseo was King Linceo's advisor, in
all matters. He is second. He also gives direction for the town.
178 – Duke Briseo seems like the perfect version of Albanian kindness. Smartest.
bravest Love the child the most. It is best to guide and teach a child.
179 – Florante remembers how Duke Briseo used to call him (when he was a little
boy): Florante my unique or lonely flower. (My one and only special flower.)
NOTE: We can't guess why Duke Briseo thinks of his son as a flower. Could it be
because of Florante's hair color? Or because Florante's face is so smooth?
180 – That's what Florante has been called since she was a child. He first heard it
from his parents. That's his nickname / nickname / nickname. And now that he was
suffering, it was as if he could hear someone calling him by this nickname.
181 – Florante also said that when he was young, he was almost snatched by a
vulture or bird that eats dead or about to die animals.
182 - It is said that his mother told him (Florante) that when little Florante was
sleeping in the big house (or villa, in English, quinta in Spanish) they had on the
mountain, a bird entered. The vulture has a sensitive sense of smell. It can smell
the dead animal from three legwas (leagues). The distance of is legwas is three
miles (miles) or 4.828 kilometers.
183 – Princess Floresca screamed, and Florante's cousin Menalipo from Epirus
(Epirus – a region in the northwest of Greece or northwestern Greece – it is
attached to Albania) was alerted. Menalipo (Minelipus) shot the vulture. The bird
died immediately.
184 - On another occasion, just before Florante learned to walk alone in the middle
of the living room, a falcon came and stole the heart and arrows diamond cut that
was on Florante's chest.
NOTE: The Hearts and Arrows Diamong Cut involves precision cutting. It is
symmetrical.
185 - When Florante was nine years old, he often wandered and played on the hill.
He shoots the birds.
186 – Every morning, when the sun had just come out, Florante was there by the
forest, with his disciples.
187 – And until the sun rose (Febo – Phoebus – sun god), probably midday, Florante
was in the fields.
188 – Florante plays with the flowers (could this be why her father calls her
Florante, the only flower?). He has a quiver of the arrow, or the feather of a
chicken or bird that is placed on the non-pointed end of an arrow, to guide or
direct its flight.
We still don't understand why the red toy is moving. To fight is to destroy one,
and also sympathize with the entire race of that one.
Maybe what Florante bred is a bird/chicken whose feathers are in the chicken, and
also the whole race or family of birds/chickens.
Even the birds flying in the wet south wind are chased by Florante.
189 – When Florante sees an animal on a nearby mountain, he will shoot it. Only one
left, hitting already. Florante's eyes were so intense and clear.
190 – Florante's companions will go ahead to take the killed animal. Overjoyed,
they ignore the sharp thorns in their path.
191 – Florante is comforted by being with them. Florante's companions were running
around in the grass. And when they see the dead animal, shout for joy!
192 - When Florante gets tired of his bow toy (bow... as in bow and arrow), they
will sit next to the spring (batis or spring), look at their own reflection, and
take in the coolness of the water.
193 – Here by the water, Florante will listen to the Naiads (Naiads – female water
spirits). When the Nayadas play the lyre, sadness will be removed from your chest.
194 – Also birds, approaching the singing and laughing Ninfas (nymph – nature
goddess).
195 – On the branch of the oleander tree (the highest of the tree) the birds go to
listen to the singing Nymphs.
The beloved stream of the venerable blind gentile is probably the stream mentioned
in the Bible - John, Chapter 9.
In the "Pool of Siloam" Jesus Christ performed a miracle, where he put mud in the
eyes of a blind man, and he saw again.
According to others, it was also here in the "Pool of Siloam" that Hadrian promoted
the pagan shrine of the Four Nymphs (pagan Shrine of the Four Nymphs) in 135 AD.
(Where did Balagtas read this? Why does he know this history? He's really weird!)
196 – Florante's joy in that place did not last long. Because his father loved him,
he was ordered to leave.
197 – When a child experiences only constant pleasure, it will grow weak.
If you grow up, no one will ask for comfort = No consequences. Nothing will happen.
No comfort will come in your life, if you were a child you were just soaked in
happiness and you didn't even experience life's trials.
198 – This is a world of poverty. So every person must learn to strengthen the
will. If you don't learn to endure, how will you deal with the times when the world
treats you harshly?
199 – The person who is used to a good life is the core of Selan. He can't bear or
endure hardship, poverty, or trouble. Nothing has come yet, the problem is in the
imagination, well... it's gone.
200 – Just like a plant that is always watered, when there is a moment of heat and
it is not watered immediately, well... it withers. So is the heart that is only
used to joy.
201 – Just a little bit of trouble, it's getting bigger right away. Such is the
chest that does not know how to bear or endure. There is only a little change in
the world, the blink of an eye or a moment is already great suffering.
(Are you having trouble with Florante and Laura? How is your chest? Do you fold
quickly? Or can you fight? Paiter, yes!)
202 – The child raised in fun and easy living, has something in mind. Sometimes,
it's like not thinking anymore. No common sense. The parenting is wrong. They
thought that what they showed their child was love. But wrong. So that's the dire
result: useless children.
(It's good that you are studying this Florante and Laura. You have hope to do what
needs to be done, so that the future of you and your family will be better.)
203 – The love of the other parent is wrong or twisted. Then, the child's condition
worsened. It is also possible that the parent was just lazy, and was negligent.
204 – Duke Briseo taught these things to his son Florante. And even though Princess
Floresca cried, Florante was still sent to a distant part of Athens to study and
become conscious.
205 – Florante was deeply saddened when he arrived in Atenas (Athens). The kind
teacher he had there was Antenor. Antenor is a descendant of Pitaco (Pittacus of
Mytilene – considered as one of the Seven Sages of Greece).
all 5 senses were heal so the next day when he woke up he was better and aladin was
