WEEK 5
Did you know that posters, tarpaulins, magazine covers are like
advertisements?
What do graphic designers place on the cover or in the illustrations to attract
the attention of readers? How do you “read” a magazine cover?
Note that what you have viewed are posters or advertisements that
communicate to the readers using symbolism.
Look at the picture A above. Picture A is an example of a poster viewing
material to inform the public of the precautionary measures at the time of
pandemic through wearing facemasks before entering public offices. While,
picture B is another example of a poster viewing material advertising a certain
food.
Do the examples of viewing materials give information to the public?
How do they differ from the text only?

Below are some of the viewing materials to learn, to be entertained, and to know things:

1. Still pictures - are ordinary photographs that are not videos, movies, and
others.

2. Television Shows - are contents produced for viewing on a television set

and broadcast via over-the-air, satellite, cable, excluding breaking news,
advertisements, or trailers that are typically placed between shows. A
onetime show may be called a "special".

3. Video Games - are games played by electronically manipulating images

produced by a computer program on a television screen or other display
screen.

4. Films/movies - A film, also known as a "movie" or a "motion picture," is a

series of moving images shown on a screen, usually with sound, that make
up a story. The movie itself is a film, and you can also use the word to mean
the photographic strip of plastic that runs through a camera and
captures the film's images.

5. Compact Discs - are small plastic disc on which music or other digital
information is stored, and from which the information can be read using
reflected laser light.

6. Computer Images - may refer to: Computer-generated imagery, still or

moving imagery created by or with help of a computer. System image, a
serialized (backup)

7. Cover Page of a Book - It covers important information about who wrote and
published the book, as well as those that are used by libraries and bookstores for
cataloging purposes.

8. Magazine- is a periodical publication containing articles and illustrations,

typically covering a particular subject or area of interest.

We get a lot of information through our eyes each day. We look at the different viewing materials
to learn, to be entertained, and to know things through pictures, collage, television shows, film or
movies, computer images, video games, compact disc, and others.
