UNIT 3: LESSON 2
Good Life and Human Flourishing

I. Answer the following comprehensive questions to the best of your knowledge.

1. In your own words, how will you define happiness? (4PTS.)

One of the best lessons learned in life, never search your HAPPINESS in others it will
make you feel ALONE. Search your HAPPINESS in YOURSELF and then you will feel HAPPY
even when you are left ALONE.

2. There are two conceptions of happiness namely hedonic and eudaimonic. The former
refers to a happiness which is achieved through experiences of pleasure and enjoyment while
the latter pertains to happiness that is obtained through experiences of meaning and purpose.
Give at least two examples for each and expound thoroughly. (6PTS.)

Hedonic happiness refers to a happiness which is achieved through experiences of pleasure

and enjoyment, for instance enjoying a delicious ice cream or playing/spending time with your
loved ones.

While eudaimonic happiness is pleasure received by experiences of meaning and purpose,

such as planting a garden or volunteering to aid others and savoring its fruits.

3. According to Aristotle, to achieve happiness, one should live their life in accordance with
their virtues. He claimed people are constantly striving to meet their potential and be their
best selves which leads to greater purpose and meaning. How would you explain these
statements? (5PTS.)

That humans find it hard to satisfy themselves and are always searching for their perfect
purpose in life. And people are always looking for what they really want, wanting more is
triumphant.

“Virtue means doing the right thing, in relation to the right person, at the right time, to the right
extent, in the right manner, and for the right purpose. Thus, to give money away is quite a simple
task, but for the act to be virtuous, the donor must give to the right person, for the right purpose,
in the right amount, in the right manner, and at the right time.” ARISTOTLE

4. If you would be given the opportunity to choose between short term pleasure or long-term
happiness, what would it be and why? (5PTS.)

I would prefer long-term happiness. It is by striving to live by purpose, at first you will
experience the risks of pain in trials, then you will gain lessons in life, and all one must do is be
determined and persevere to reach ones goal but at the end of the day, you will find pleasure and
success with a smile on your face that you surpassed all along the way.

5. Cite three (3) reasons why having a good life is one of the most important foundations for
human flourishing. (5PTS.)

The three reasons of having a good life as the most important foundations of human
flourishing are, it promotes growth, development, and holistic well-being of individuals and
populations. That is being committed to growing within, and developing, supportive and
cultivating environments that form our capabilities, believing in ourselves and our abilities,
knowing about our health and being healthy and being self-motivated.
