MADE IN THE PHILIPPINES

Our exports are in deep trouble. In the last four years, the number of exporters has decreased
by more than half, dropping from around 8,500 to 4,600. If this trend continues, the fate of
"MADE IN THE PHILIPPINES" products on the global stage is at risk. This decline not only
signifies a loss of business opportunities for Philippine entrepreneurs but also poses a threat to
the overall presence and competitiveness of Philippine-made products worldwide. A dwindling
pool of exporters risks limited variety, reduced innovation, and diminished international visibility.

My research seeks to play a role in reversing this trend by concentrating efforts on key services.
Recognizing the critical role of the Export Marketing Bureau or the EMB, my research focuses
on exploring its competitive advantage to fortify our exporters. Aligned with public value theory,
this effort aims to enhance the quality, efficiency, and relevance of EMB services.

Interviews with exporters reveal insights on key areas where EMB transforms Philippine export
businesses:
1. EMB provides free booths at trade shows, empowering exporters to showcase their
products globally.
2. Organized Business Matching events help exporters forge connections, linking
Philippine businesses to global opportunities.
3. EMB guides exporters through complex regulations, providing them knowledge and
confidence as they push through.
4. Specialized trainings equip exporters to realize Preferential Trade Arrangements to
make their products more cost competitive.
5. Usapang Exports help businesses better understand the export ecosystem, and
becomes a platform for shaping policies and addressing exporter concerns.
6. Through Stakeholder consultations, EMB seeks feedback to improve processes for
businesses aspiring to go global.

Strategic focus on areas of competitive advantage aims to enhance exporter competitiveness

and adaptability, and to strengthen their capacity to navigate challenges, ensuring resilience
against market fluctuations, regulatory changes, and international competition.

Enhancing EMB’s competitive advantage is also vital to attract valuable partnerships to increase
efficiency in achieving its goals of developing a resilient exporter base that is crucial for boosting
the global presence of "Made in the Philippines" products and elevating our nation as a reliable
supplier.

Our pursuit of a competitive advantage inherently practices patriotism, playing a significant role
in the country’s economic growth and poverty reduction. Supporting businesses in their
exporting journey directly contributes to job creation and economic empowerment, addressing
poverty's root causes. Through our efforts, we aim to champion Philippine businesses and
contribute to the overarching success of Philippine industries, fostering a robust and resilient
economic landscape.

It is my hope that this research becomes a valuable contribution towards forging a path where
"MADE IN THE PHILIPPINES" becomes synonymous with excellence, reliability, and a
commitment to uplifting lives.

Maraming salamat po.
