Our nation’s past is filled of fascinating individuals, places, and events.

We may better comprehend the

present and make more informed judgments about the future by learning about our past. Stories of
bravery, tenacity, and resilience in the face of difficulty abound in our past. We can all learn from and
aspire to these qualities. Even just learning about our history can teach you a lot, and contrary to what
some may believe, it is not boring.

My newfound knowledge of Philippine history includes the specific events that led to Ferdinand
Magellan’s discovery of our nation with the aid of Antonio Pigafetta’s primary source. I also gained
knowledge on how Filipinos interact and relate to one another. It demonstrated that we have always
extended hospitality to visitors. We already have the most basic type of government from before the
arrival of the first colonists. Our kings are highly educated, and his subjects treat them with respect and
allegiance. It also provided insight into how Filipinos used to live, showing that males were in charge of
doing the labor-intensive outdoor chores while women stayed inside to weave mats, baskets, and other
household necessities out of palm leaves. We were pretty resourceful even then. Before the Spanish
arrived in our country, the Filipinos were already engaged in trade, both inside their own country and
with other nations.

After learning something new, I’m fascinated and more aware of how people in the Philippines lived at
the time. I now realize that I never truly dug deep into the past, but I am now curious to learn more and
acquire fresh information.
