1. What is Philippine History and Government?

The Philippines are named after Philip II, monarch of Spain during the 16th-
century Spanish colonization of the islands. The Philippines shares many cultural
traits with the West due to its 333 years of Spanish rule and the additional 48
years of U.S. tutelage. The Philippines is a republic with a presidential system of
government in which the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of
government are each given an equal amount of power.

2. Why is it important to study History and Government of the Philippines?

It is significant because every Filipino's present and plans are guided by history.
Enhances our sense of national identity. As a result, it is important for us to
understand our national heritage and to be proud of it. Our past selves, according
to history, shaped who we are today. Another benefit of learning about Philippine
history is that we can draw inspiration from the valor of the people who helped us
defeat the conquerors. Their tales exhort us to embody our best selves for the
good of the nation.

3. As a Beed student is it important to take this subject? Yes or No then why?

We need to study Philippine history as BEED students because understanding
the present requires an understanding of the past. For our identity as a
community and as a country to be firmly based on historical truths and enduring
traditions, we must recognize our roots. By doing this, we may approach the
present and the future with the assurance that whatever errors our ancestors
made in the past will not be made again at this time and develop a strategy for
dealing with issues that are based on the knowledge we have gleaned from the
past.
