Performance Task
Read a children’s poem written in your mother language. Read it naturally and determine which
of the two orthographies the poet used in writing the poem. Paraphrase the message of the poem
using the same language. This time, follow the orthography that you think encapsulates the
distinct phonetic features of Ilokano.

Original Paraphrase
“Ti Ullaw nga Inted ni Tatang”

Agyamanak 'tang! inko inpukkaw.

In this poem, they used Bannawag Orthography because while reading the poem, I noticed in
other words in poem, she used an enclitic pronoun, she often attached it to action words, the
word “inpatayabko” and “nagisemak” which is the verb and there are other examples like
“tatangko”, “saanak”, and “Ullawko” and they can be read without stopping or pausing because
they are connected and this is an example of Bannawag Orthography.

Message:
Nagaramid ni tatang na ti ullaw tapno haan isuna nakulit ti paligid, unay ti ragsakna iti ullaw,
gapu iti ragsakna impatayab na dayta ullaw idiay langit. Dina ammo siguro ti agpatayab ti ullaw,
nasdaaw lattan iti kinapintasna idiay langit dina ammo a dandanin agtinnag ken agbitin ti ullaw
na. Naisalat diay ullaw na nga agtayab-tayab na inaramid ni tatang na. Ti mensahe ti daniw ket
saan unay a nakulit ken agin-inayad kadagiti aramid a maaramid.

Utilization of Learning
Direction: Read the questions and provide coherent answer. Use concepts/ideas discussed
in the lesson and your observation in preserving the Ilokano language (thru MTB-MLE) to
support your answer.

1. What is the distinct feature of Ilokano orthography? Give just one feature and provide
example.
One of the distinct features of Ilokano Orthography is the proper use of borrowing from others
languages to Ilokano morphemes and syntax. When there is a borrowed word, you need to add a
hyphen so that we know it is a word from another language, but if the borrowed word is
translated into your own language, you cannot add a hyphen, just add an enclitic pronoun.

For example:

Computer-ko (there’s an hyphen because “Computer” is a borrowed word)


Kompiuterko ( there is no hyphen because “kompiuter” is no longer a borrowed word)

2. What is the main contrasting features of the two orthographies in terms of writing the
Ilokano language system? Give just one contradicting features of the two dictated by the
two orthographies.
- The contrast between the two of them is how to pronounce it, in bannawag orthography the
Ilocano word pronounced without pausing because of enclitic pronouns and in Pambansang
Orthography uses genitive pronouns so the speaking of Ilocano words is halting.

3. Which of these two orthographies translate the distinct phonetic features and grammatical
system of the Ilokano language?
- This is the Bannawag Orthography, it is what the Ilocano community are used to use because it
is easier and more understandable when pronounced. Because of the way it is pronounced, you
don’t need to pause, for example "Nakitadaka", this is used by Ilocano people who used bannawa
orthography and it is easier to understand not as "nakita/pause/da/ka" is more messy. The
Pambansang Orthography is only used to compare it to our national language, which is Filipino.

I, Tania J. Tagle from BEED-3, The undersigned has been elected as SK Kagawad of Barangay Poblacion
J, Camiling, Tarlac, in the recently concluded 2023 Barangay and SK Elections. Before our full assumption
of office, Republic Act No. 10742, otherwise known as the “Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015”
mandates that any Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) official, whether elected or appointed, must undergo the
mandatory training programs.

The Municipality of Camiling, through its Local Youth Development Office, will be facilitating the
Mandatory Training in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government – Camiling.

In line with this, the undersigned would like to ask your permission to be excused from your classes to
participate in the Sangguniang Kabataan Mandatory Training (SKMT), which will be held on November 8,
2023, 8:00AM – 5:00PM at the Sports Complex, Camiling, Tarlac.

Your favorable consideration on the matter will be highly appreciated.
