Writing Assignment
Writing About Theme
For this assignment, you will write two strong, well-written, organized paragraphs.
You have read “The Magic Prison,” and “Kaddo’s Wall.” Write a paragraph for each of the two stories that states a
theme from the story and explains how that theme is developed.
1. Identify the theme of the story in your topic sentence.

2. Include several supporting details from the text.

3. Explain how those details develop or support a theme of the stories.

4. End your paragraphs with strong concluding sentences.

Please review the rubric for additional information about how your paragraphs will be graded.

The theme of Kaddo’s Wall is, “If you are alone you may find yourself alone and without help.” I can
support that by him saying, “The corn Is mine. It is my surplus. I can’t eat it all. It comes from my own
fields. I am rich.” The way those details develop or support a theme of the stories is that; Kaddo’s
grandchildren and great grandchildren in the Kingdom of Seno are poor to this day. And to the rich men
of the country the common people sometimes say, “Don’t build a wall of flour around your house.”
