STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS
A. General
These Zamil Air Handling Units are factory fabricated and assembled, consisting of forward-curved fan section with
blower motor, DX coil, electric heaters (optional), filters & electrical control box and are suitable for indoor applications.
The unit is ready to operate when piped to a suitable condensing unit, connected to power/controls and air ducts or
plenums.
They should be ordered separately as horizontal air discharge or vertical air discharge units as per application require-
ments.

B. Unit Enclosure
Casing Panels are of heavy gauge (G-90) galvanized steel. Removable access panels are provided for inspection and
access to all internal parts. These panels are insulated with 1/2" thick fiberglass insulation to prevent condensation from
forming on the unit casing. Insulation meets the requirements of NFPA 90A and is protected against deterioration and
errosion from air currents. Steel sheet is zinc-coated, galvanized by the hot dip process of lock forming quality conform-
ing to ASTM A 653 commercial weight G-90, followed by baked-on electrostatic polyester dry powder coat.

C. Coils
Coils are of the enhanced louvered fin-and-tube type, constructed of copper tubes, mechanically bonded to aluminum
fins. As an option, corrugated copper or enhanced coated aluminum fins may be provided. End plates and tube support
sheets are 18 gauge galvanized steel, formed to provide structural strength. Each coil is pressure tested in the factory at
not less than 300 psi (2070 kPa) air pressure. Coils conform to ARI 410.

D. Drain Pans
Drain pans provided under cooling coil section are made of G-90 galvanized steel with mastic coated liner for additional
corrosion protection. Drain outlets of 3/4" NPT is provided for field connection.

E. Evaporator Fan
Evaporator fan is of a centrifugal forward-curved blade design and sized to meet system airflow/pressure. Fan motor is
mounted on an adjustable base and secured by a locking device. Fan drive is through adjustable motor pitch pulley and
belt-driven. Fan shafts are designed to operate at less than 2/3rds of the first critical speed when the unit comes up to
rated revolutions per minute (RPM). Units have sealed, permanently lubricated ball or sleeve fan bearing and are stati-
cally / dynamically balanced in the fan housing during final assembly. Fan motors are of the open drip-proof type (totally
enclosed types are optional) and conform to NEMA MG-1 & MG-2. Motor starters are magnetic contactor, across-the-
line type.

4
F. Microprocessor Control
These air handling units are provided with a microprocessor control board incorporating the following features:
- BALANCE LOADING OF COMPRESSORS: The unit’s electronic control automatically operates lead/lag sequence
of compressors. This is to load the compressors evenly over long periods of operation. If required however, compres-
sor-1 can also be set to always lead. In this case, compressor-1 always starts first and stops last. (Selectable through
dip switch setting on control board).
- PUMP DOWN FUNCTION: In units equipped with pump down system, the controller provides the time delay between
solenoid’s opening and compressor starting to equalize the pressure in the system necessary for compressor to start-
up. (Selectable through dip switch setting on control board).
- COMPRESSOR ANTI-RECYCLING PROTECTION: The controller has a built-in 3 minutes minimum off timer for
compressor. This is for compressor protection in case of accidental manual re-set or immediate re-cycling of thermo-
stat due to load demand.
- COMPRESSOR LOCK-OUT FUNCTION: If any of the unit’s safety control trips due to abnormal conditions, the
electronic controls locks out the compressor after a pre-determined timing preventing a re-start unless attended by a
qualified service technician. The unit can be re-started through thermostat re-set after ensuring safe system condi-
tions.
- FAULT DIAGNOSTICS: In case of system fault, LED’s on the board emits a flashing signal indicating where the fault
is. This is to guide the service technician in identifying the fault.
- DIGITAL I/O’s: The unit’s control board is compatible to operate with a DDC controller or any standard 24V a.c.
thermostat commercially available.
- SEQUENTIAL CONTROL: With input signals from the thermostat, the motors in the equipment is started in sequen-
tial order: supply fan – condenser fan – compressor; at a pre-determined timings.

G. Control Panel
A complete factory-wired control panel is provided to ensure safe and proper operation.

OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES

A. Electric Heaters
Electric heaters are of the resistance open coil type and conform to the requirements of UL 573 or equivalent. Electrical
characteristics, kW capacities and number of stages are as indicated. Thermal cut-outs, fusible links and airflow switches
are provided to shut-off power to heaters in case of airflow failure.

B. Filters
Filters are easily accessible through the filter access panel. Filters may be synthetic or permanent washable aluminum
type (refer to model decoding for details). As an accessory, bag filter section can be provided for belt driven units.

C. Discharge Air Plenum & Return Air Grille

As an accessory, discharge air plenum with return air grilles can be provided on vertical units.

D. UV Flow™ Light Emitters

The damp & dark environment inside the AHU is ideal for the growth and development of hazardous bacteria & fungi. The
UV flow concept uses emitters of Ultra Violet light to simulate the effect of healthy sun radiation. This will inhibit the growth
of these microorganisms reducing in this manner mold related allergies and diseases. Breath safely with UV flow™.

CONTROLS & SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
Scroll compressors are designed to operate in single direction only. Hence, care has to be taken to ensure correct
rotation when the system is operated. Verification of correct rotation is by observing that the suction pressure drops and
discharge pressure rises when compressor run. Reverse rotation results in abnormal sound, as well as, substantially low
current draw and by interchanging power supply wire L1 & L3 will correct this problem.
The operation of the air conditioning unit is controlled by a 24VAC electronic control board.
GENERAL
The thermostat normally displays room temperature and mode of operation. The five buttons on the front of the unit
allow complete control of the thermostat. The thermostat also allows to select continuous fan operation (useful when
using an air cleaner) or have the fan come on with the compressor.
SWITCH FUNCTION
- On/Off Key : Switch the system On or Off.
- Up Key : To increases the set temperature.
- Down Key : To decreases the set temperature.
- Mode Key : Changes the mode to Fan, Cool, Heat or Auto.
- Fan Key : Changes the Fan Operation to Auto or Continuous.
- °C/°F selection : By pressing Mode & UP key together, toggles between °C to °F or vice versa.

temperature & Set temperature.
Heat: In this mode of operation, Fan is ON.
Auto: In auto mode, thermostat provide automatic changeover from heating to cooling mode & vice versa. Ther-
mostat automatically switches to maintain the desired temperature.
DIP SWITCH OPTIONS AND FUNCTIONS
There are 4 small DIP (Dual in line package) switches on the back of the circuit board which must be configured by
the installer.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
A. GENERAL
Blower units are shipped completely wired. Only external power, interconnecting control wiring between outdoor and
indoor units and refrigerant pipe connections are needed to complete the installation. For detailed instructions/informa-
tions, please refer to corresponding IOM manual.

B. UNIT LOCATION & ACCESS SPACE

The placement of the unit in relationship to the building is very important. A minimum of 36 inches clearance must be
kept on the service access side and return air side.
When making tubing connections, be sure to provide clearance for electrical connections.

C. TUBING INSTALLATION
Do not remove plugs from the compression fittings until tubing has been run and is ready for connection.
a. Make sure the tubing is round, without dent or burrs.
b. Cut tubing to the length required with a tube cutter carefully. Do not use a hacksaw.
c. Remove burr from inside and outside using file or deburring tool.
NOTE: Always use a gear type tube bender when making bends in suction line.
When installing tubing through walls or along side of any structural members, be sure the tubing is isolated from these
members or walls to avoid any transmission of vibration that may occur, while unit is running.

ELECTRICAL
STEP 1: INSTALLATION
A) Please ensure power supply to the unit is as per unit nameplate (Volts/Ph/Hz) requirements.
Caution: Operation of the unit on improper power supply will result in damage to the unit.
NOTE: Use copper wires of proper rating for all field wiring.
Warning
Before servicing or installation of the unit, always TURN OFF all power to the unit. There may be more than one discon-
nect switch. Ensure all of them are turned off. Electrical shock can cause personal injury or death.
B) Ground & power wires
Connect power wires to terminal block per wiring diagram.
Connect ground wire to the ground lug inside the control box.
C) Control wiring between outdoor & indoor unit
Use 16 gauge color-coded wire between the indoor and outdoor units (control wiring).

STEP 2: START-UP
Refer to outdoor unit installation instructions for system start-up instructions and refrigerant charging method details.

STEP 3: SEQUENCE OF OPERATION

With power supplied to indoor and outdoor units, the unit starts responding to the thermostat mode requirement.
Cooling mode: When thermostat calls for cooling, the blower motor in the indoor unit is switched on. The compressor
contactor is energized to start the compressor and condenser fan.
As the conditioned space approaches the thermostat cooling set point, the unit cycles off.
Heating mode: When thermostat calls for heating, the blower motor in the indoor unit is switched on. The contactor for
electric heater is switched on to energize the heaters. If the room temperature is not satisfied and there are two heaters
installed, the second heater also will be energized.
Once, the conditioned space approaches the desired temperature set point, the heating stages cycles off.
Fan mode: In this mode the indoor unit blower motor is switched on alone.
