“Excellent, thank you for sharing your ideas and
thoughts regarding the video. I’m glad that all of
you are listening and actively participating in our
discussion.”

“Going back, based on the video, what do you

think is the topic for today? Anyone who can
guess it?”
Student: I think ma’am the topic for today
“Yes, Mr./Ms._________go ahead.” is “Employee Discipline”

“Yes, exactly Employee Discipline”.

C. Lesson Proper
The student teacher will make the students aware
of the topic for this day’s discussion.

“All right, class, as your classmate mentioned,

today's topic is Employee Discipline.” The students raise their hand using raise
hand button.
“Okay class, who among you are working? I know
that some of you have work experience. May I ask
who among you get disciplined by the manager or
the head of the company? How did they discipline
you? Anyone? Yes Mr./Ms_______”

working.”

"Did you know that there is a process that should

be considered in employee discipline to avoid any
problem later on specially for the company?" The students think critically.

“So, we will find out in this lesson, but first I need

all of you to be attentive during the discussion and
make a note of the important points or facts
regarding this topic. Are we clear class?”

“Let us know first the learning objectives, at the end

of our lesson, you, the students are expected to;”

1. Define discipline;
2. Discuss the importance of discipline &
disciplinary process;
3. Demonstrate the disciplinary action
procedure, the twin notice rule;
4. Appreciate the importance of discipline for
employees.

“Okay class let’s now move forward to our main

discussion. Let’s define first what is employee
discipline.” Anyone who wants to read?”
The student read the slides of
“Yes, Mr./Ms. ___________Thank you!” PowerPoint Presentation

The student teacher will start to discuss and

explain employee discipline.
“From the Word discipline, it is a practice of training
the people to obey the rules or policies. Since it is
about employee, discipline is not only focused on
giving a punishment, but also all about how you will
teach them by changing their misbehavior and
doing the right thing. All of the companies always
provided their own policies to achieve their main
goals. This will guide them to observed how the
employees perform well for the company. If the
employee is actively working, if he/she has
contribution to the company or worst he/she is the
one who gives the problem to the company.”

“Also, there are actions that should be taken if the

employee violates the rules of the company to
prevent them from repeating their mistakes. So,
what are those? It can be verbal or written
warnings, suspension or even termination from
work. If we don’t have discipline, what do you think
class may happen? Anyone?” “I think ma’am it may lead to the various
negative consequences, impacting both
“Yes, Mr./Ms._______________Thank You!” employees and the overall organizational
effectiveness.”
“If there’s no discipline in the company, the
employee will take things for granted and make
some wrong decisions that might affect the
company’s success and growth.”

“Are we clear class about the definition of

employee discipline”. “Yes, ma’am!”

“Can you give me some reactions if you are still The students give different emoji

“Alright Thank You class!”

The student teacher proceeds to discuss the

importance of discipline.

“Let’s now move forward to the importance of

discipline. Who wants to read this slide.?” “The importance of employee discipline is
growth of the employee, employer
Yes, Mr./Ms.___________Thank You! protection and Fair Workplace.”
“Well of course for the growth of the employee.
Since discipline teaches the employee to change
their misbehavior by guiding them to do the right
things, the employee will change their work habits
and make them realize what they need to improve
to become better employee of the company. It
serves as a guide to transform their old behaviors.”

“Next is Employer Protection,

We admit that employees have different traits or
behavior that they show to the company. Despite
knowing them over many years, there are non-
believers that will bring you down. So, we should
be careful, class, because there are some
employees, after receiving the disciplinary action
from the company, they fight back. Everything you
do in creating disciplinary actions should be
documented because this will help you to become
fair in every decision and to protect you and the
company.”

“Another importance is Fair workplace.”

“So, disciplining an employee can create a fair

workplace if you follow and document the same
process of your employee this will help to avoid
discrimination with them. Everyone has the right
and opportunity to explain about their side.
“The 3 importance of discipline are
“Again, class what are the 3 importance of Employee Growth, Employer Protection
discipline? Yes, Mr./Ms._______” and Fair Workplace.”

“Alright, thank you Mr./Ms.________”

“I’m glad that you are still listening to my The students give heart emoji reactions.
discussion. Give yourself heart reactions.”

Let’s now proceed to the Disciplinary Process.

“So disciplinary process is a steps or procedure to

modify the performance of employee. They are
modifying their poor performance and the behavior
of the employee, by identifying first the problem,
investigating the situation and taking appropriate
corrective action.”

“As you can see class in the left side of the graph,
to modify the performance of employee, the
employee should receive first:
So, what are those class? anyone from the class?
Yes Mr./Ms.___________” “Clear Expectations, Training, Coaching,
& Constructive Feedback Counselling”
“Alright, Thank You!”

“Yes, the employee should receive first the clear

expectations. So, this is important part that we
should know what are the roles and responsibilities
as an employee to perform what is expected by the
company. What are the rules/policies that the
employee needs to follow and consider. By having
clear expectations class, the employees will be
motivated and can contribute to the success of
company.”

“Next, is the employee should receive a training. “Well-trained employees are likely to be
So, what do you think class, that the employees more productive. They can work more
should receive training? efficiently, make fewer errors, and
May I hear from Mr./Ms._____________” contribute positively to the overall
productivity of the organization.”
“Very Good! Mr./Ms.______________”

Give Mr./Ms._____ heart reactions.

The students give heart reactions.
“Okay thank you!”

“Yes, your classmate is correct, make sure that

your employees are well trained that would help
them to enhance their skills, not only will the
employees experience growth, but the company
will also succeed. Also, by having training, it will be
easy for them to follow the policy or procedures
that can create a safe working environment.”

“Next is Coaching, same with the training, by

having coaching, it enhances their skills and
improves the performance of employee to achieve
the goals of company.”
“The last one is Constructive
Feeback/Counselling. By providing the employees
with feedback, it gives them insight of what he/she
needs to improve for the company, by giving them
guidance and support. Also, by having counselling,
the employee can address the problem and give
solutions to it.”

“Did you understand the class? Can you give me a “Yes, Ma’am!”
thumbs up reaction if you have no question in our The students give thumbs up reactions.
discussion?”

“Alright, thank you class.”

“So, if the employee did not follow the expectations

of the company or did not fulfill job responsibilities
or worse, they violate some policies or rules of the
organization, after all the employees receive clear
expectations, training, coaching and counselling,
they would give them disciplinary actions. As you
can see class on the bottom of the graph, from
least severe offense to most severe offense. So,
what are those? Anyone?”
“Verbal Reprimand, Written Reprimand,
“Yes, Mr./Ms._______ thank you!” Suspension, & Termination.”

“So, in the verbal reprimand or another term is

verbal warning, there would be conversation
between manager and employee. The employee
will be given opportunity to explain why he/she did
not meet the expectation standards of the
company or why he/she violates the rules or
policies of it. For example, the employee violates
the rule of by always coming late to work. By this,
the company will give them verbal warning to the
employee so that he/she won’t repeat the
unacceptable behavior.”

“If that employee doesn’t show improvement, and

she/he still comes late to work, what next offense “I think ma’am it’s, Written reprimand.”
would give to them? Yes Mr./Ms._______
Thank You!”
“Yes, the written reprimand, so the manager will
investigate you if you have a history of violating the
policy. But employee should be presented with
reasons why their behavior is problematic and how
and why it is expected to change.”

“If the employee is still disobedient for all the

warnings that the employer gave, they give
suspension it depends on the company of how
many days of suspension. So, the employer asks
the employee to leave the office and develop an
action improvement plan (AIP). By having an
improvement plan class, it gives the employee a
final chance to step away and reflect on what
happened, as well as to decide if they want to
make the effort to improve.”

“If there’s no progress after giving them chances,

the final steps in the employee discipline process,
May I hear from Mr./Ms.____ Thank You!”
“Termination, Ma’am”
“Yes, the employee will terminate the job.”

“So important class, as an employee, you should

follow of what the company expected from us by
following the rules or policies so that we do not
experience the action taken against you.”

“Are we clear class on this disciplinary process? “Yes, ma’am!”

Give me thumbs if you understand this topic. The students give thumbs up reactions.
Alright, Thank you class!”

“Let’s now move forward that I would like to discuss

with you class is the twin notice rule.”

“So, what is the twin notice rule? Anyone who The students read the slides.
wants to read the slides? Yes Mr./Ms.
________Thank You!”

“So, the concept of the Twin Notice Rule has

something to do with Labor Laws, particularly in
Illegal Dismissal cases.”
“For example, the manager wants to fire you
without any reason, and you have no idea why they
fire you, without undergoing the due process,
which is the two-notice rule, it would be illegal
dismissal cases.”

Twin Notice Rule must be followed by the “Ma’am I think they would be liable

illegal dismissal? Yes Mr./Ms._______

“Exactly! Thank You! This is the base on do. 147,

series of 2015 because they do not give you
chance to explain or inform you why they are
terminating you in the job.”

“The first written notice refers to that which must be

served on the employee or employees concerned.
It should contain what company rules were violated
if any, and the specific causes or grounds for
termination against them. So that the employee will
not give any invalid reason or arguments against
to the employer.”

“The first written notice must contain a directive

that the employees are given the opportunity to
submit their written explanation within a
reasonable period. Mostly they are given 5 days to
submit it.”

“What do you think class would happen, if the “If the employee does not submit his/her
employee did not submit his/her reply within the reply within the days, the company will
period? Anyone? Yes, Mr./Ms._________” decide the disciplinary actions that should
be taken to them.”
“Great, Thank You!”
“The company will decide what disciplinary actions
will give to the employee from the policy he/she
violated.”

“After serving the first written notice, the employers

should schedule and conduct a hearing or
conference wherein the employees will be given
the opportunity to:
1. Explain and clarify their defenses to the charge
against them;
2. Present evidence in support of their defenses;
and
3. Rebut the evidence presented against them by
the management.”

“In case there is a determination that termination of

employment is justified, the employer concerned
shall give the employees a second written notice.
The second written notice is now called the “Notice
of Decision” which the administrative releases the
decision involving the charge against the
employees and that the grounds have been
established to justify the severance of their
employment.”

The teacher summarizes the topic by asking

these questions: “Clear Expectations, Training, Coaching,
“In disciplinary process what should employees & Constructive Feedback Counselling”
receive to assist in modifying their performance.”
“What are the disciplinary actions that would be “Verbal Reprimand, Written Reprimand,
given to employee if she/he did not follow the Suspension, & Termination.”
