Subject: Algebra 1

Period: 6th Hour

Topic: Solving Linear Equations

terms and using the Distributive Property.

Common Core HSA.REI.A.1, HSA.REI.B.3, MP.1, MP.2, MP.7

State Standards

Materials and Document camera, whiteboard, paper, writing utensil, calculator, and
Media “Solving Equations - The Distributive Property” handout.

Methods and ● Start class with daily expectations on the board and remind students
Techniques to check them as they enter the classroom.
● Work through notes (attached below) using the document camera
and check answers on the whiteboard when needed.
○ Ask students for input while working through each example
● Hand out “Solving Equations - The Distributive Property” (attached
below) and use the remainder of the hour as work time
○ Give students lined paper to check their answers (first two
rows of questions)
● Walk around and answer questions as needed
○ Check answers for students when completed

Modifications No modifications in this period, but the number of problems could be

reduced for certain students if needed.

Connections and They have solved equations where they needed to use just the Distributive
Extensions Property and where they needed to just combine like terms, now they are
doing both. They will move into story problems from here.

Assessment They will have the remainder of the hour and the following day to complete
Criteria “Solving Equations - The Distributive Property”.
