I. MACHINE OPERATION

The BMR 1000 Hot Air Sealer is designed for manual or automatic production
runs for sealing a tube style bags from 2.5 mil to 9 mil thickness. The basic
operation of the machine is that bags are fed into the infeed of the machine and
carried thru the entire machine via a pair of carrier belts. The top portion of the
bag is carried thru a pair of heat manifolds giving an approx seal of ¼” wide at
the top of the bag. The bag top is then carried thru a pair of cooling bars which
cool the seal to help solidify the sealed bag.

II. INSTALLING THE MACHINE INTO PRODUCTION

Once machine arrives unskid machine and check for any damage. If any
damage has occurred contact freight carrier at once.

III. ELECTRICAL CONTROLS

Have any personal who may be operating machine learn the electrical controls.
See figure 1 ELECTRICAL BOX 1006-30 for control layout.

Figure 1 ELECTRICAL BOX 1006-30

A. Power-turns power on and off.

B. Heat-turns heat on and off.
C. Speed dial for adjusting speed of machine.
D. Watlow 935 Temp Controller is used to raise and lower temperature.
This is done by holding the “SET” button and either the up or down
arrow.
E. Emergency Stop is for quick shutdown of machine. NOTE: Heat
manifolds will still be very hot.
F. Name plate.
IV. OPERATION

1. To start machine make sure air is hooked up and flowing

through manifolds (see drawing 1004-00 for manifold
location). Check regulator PSI should be approx. 25 PSI.
Failure to do this will cause heat elements to blow out
prematurely. Turn on power switch this starts drive. Turn
on and heat this starts heating of manifolds.

2. Set temperature controller to proper setting. For example

bag material of 4 mil will seal at a temperature of
approximately 275 degrees.

3. Using speed control adjust speeds of conveyor and sealer

so that they match exactly. Not doing so may cause a poor
seal.

4. Once red led light on heat controller goes out machine will
be ready to seal. Please note while sealer is running this
light will go on and off as control re-heats. Run several
sample bags to find correct sealing temperature.

V. HEAT AND COOL MANIFOLDS

1. Heating and cooling manifolds (see drawing 1003-00)

should be evenly spaced. Spacing is set at factory, no
adjustments should be needed. NOTE: MANIFOLDS
WILL BECOME VERY HOT DO NOT TOUCH AS
SERIOUS BURNS COULD OCCUR!!!

VI. COMPRESSION ROLLERS

1. The rear or stationary roller (see drawing 1003-00) can be

set by running a straight piece of sheet metal between
compression belts to ensure that the rear roller is set
exactly in the center of the machine. This is done at the
factory and should not need adjustment at start-up.

2. The front or hinged roller has pressure applied via a

compression spring which compresses the bag between
the two rollers leading to a positive seal. Note: Both rollers
must be running level.
VII. CARRIER BELTS

1. Two continuous ½” wide carrier belts are used to carry the

bag through the entire machine.
2. Tension is set at factory, and should require no adjustment.

VIII. TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Poor seals:
a. Too much or too little heat
b. Compression roller misaligned
c. Conveyor and sealer running different speeds

2. Bag gears below seal when leaving machine:

a. Sealer and conveyor speed not same
1. Tear at front of bag indicates conveyor running
slower than sealer.
2. Tear at rear of bag indicates conveyor running
faster than sealer.

3. Improper Heat Controls:

a. Faulty thermocouple
b. Contacts burnt
c. Heat elements burnt out
d. Faulty Controller

IX. LUBRICATION

Gear box/reducer should be checked to ensure proper level is being kept. See
reducer manual @ http://www.grovegear.com

Drive gears, sprockets and chain should have a light coat of heavy duty lithium
grease smeared on the contact points. (See drawing: 1005-00).

All bearings are sealed should not need to be greased.
