can form Perfect tenses
Perfect means to be done (or
carried out)
What is a participle

A participle is a verb, or a word based of a verb that


expresses a state of being, ending in -ing (present tense) or -
ed, -en, -d, -t, -n, or -ne (past tense) that functions as an
adjective.

In other words: This means it needs to modify (or describe) a noun or a


pronoun.
What is a participle

Examples:

Present Participle Example: The crying baby had a wet


diaper.

Past Participle Example: The wrecked car was totaled.


The present perfect tense
The past participle is added to the present tense of the
auxiliary verb ‘to have’
For example:

I have driven She has driven.


It tells of an action that
has taken place, and been

The past perfect tense
The past participle is added to the past tense of the auxiliary
verb ‘to have’.
For example:

This tense takes us another step back in time.


Past tense The action was completed before another
one took place.
The past perfect tense
The past participle is added to the past tense of the auxiliary
verb ‘to have’.
For example:

He had eaten it before I arrived. Past tense

Past Perfect tense
The future perfect tense
Both auxiliaries ‘to have’ and ‘to be’ are used to form the future perfect
tense. This tense shows that an action will have been completed at some
time in the future.
For example:
They will have driven 200 km by the time they arrive.
