REPORTED SPEECH
- El estilo indirecto se utiliza para contar lo que una persona ha dicho sin citar exactamente sus
palabras.
A) REPORTED STATEMENTS
• El tempo verbal no cambia cuando el tiempo con el que se introduce la frase es en
presente: Ej: He says, “I speak English.” – He says that he speaks English.
• Si el verbo introductorio está en pasado, el verbo de la subordinada da un salto atrásà
“I want to travel more,” he said à He said that he wanted to travel more
• Los verbos más comunes para introducir el estilo indirecto son say y tell:
TELL à no va seguido de “to” à He told us
SAY à va seguido de “to” à He said to us

B) REPORTED SUGGESTIONS
Las sugerencias se pasan al estilo indirecto de dos formas:
1) Introduciendo la frase con suggest, insist, recommend, demand, request, propose seguidos de that.
She said, “Why don´t you get a mechanic to look at the car?”
She suggested that I should get a mechanic to look at the car.
2) Usando el gerundio, sin especificar el sujeto.
“Let´s make chocolate biscuits!” she suggested.
She suggested making chocolate biscuits,

C) REPORTED QUESTIONS
• Cuando las preguntas son de respuesta YES/NO, utilizamos el verbos to ask y wether/if:
“Do you like chocolate?” They asked the girl.
They asked the girl If/wether she liked chocolate.
• Para pasar a estilo indirecto las Wh-questions, se pone la partícula de la pregunta (what,
who, where, when, why, whose, how) + sujeto + verbo.
“What is your favourite flavour’” Frank asked.
Fran asked what my favourite flavour was.

C) REPORTED ORDERS
• Para pasar una orden a estilo indirecto, se cambia el imperativo por un infinitivo.
• El verbo introductorio será tell, order, ask, beg o warn.
“Stop staring at me” the mother told her son.
The mother ordered her son to stop staring at her.
