Show a concept map about the nervous system and discuss further.

The Central Nervous System (CNS) serves as the man processing center of the
nervous system. It has three main parts:
A. Brain -organizer and distributor of information for the body.
1.Cerebrum – is the large, upper part of the brain that controls activity and thought.
2.Cerebellum – located under the cerebrum that controls posture, balance and coordination.
3. Brainstem - connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls automatic functions such as
breathing, digestion, heart rate and blood pressure.
B. Spinal Cord -serves as channel for signals between the brain and the majority of the
body parts and some simple musculoskeletal reflexes even without the processing of the
brain.
The Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) connects the central nervous system to the
organs and limbs. It has two main divisions:
A.Somatic Nervous System – associated with the voluntary control of body movement and it
has 2 main parts:
1.Spinal Nerves – carry motor and sensory signals between the spinal cord and the body.
2.Cranial Nerves – nerve fibers that carry information into and out of the brain stem.
B. Autonomic Nervous System – controls your body's vital functions without you noticing

1.Sympathetic - in charge of regulating how the body reacts to perceived danger and
triggering the “fight-or-flight” response.
2.Parasympathetic -relaxes the body in inhibiting high energy functions. It is triggering the
“rest and digest”response.

C. Abstraction (Making
generalizations about the What is Nervous System?
lesson) The nervous system is a complex network of nerves and cells that carry
messages to and from the brain and spinal cord to the various parts of the body.

What are the major function of the nervous system?

1.The nervous system makes the body move. (somatic or voluntary)
2.The nervous system helps people detect stimuli from their environment (sensory)
3.It maintains body functions important for life without our being aware of it.(autonomic or
involuntary)
4.It helps us think and remember.(cognitive)

Ask learners to indicate the major function to which an action belongs to.

What are the disorders that can affect the nervous system?
1.Stroke
2.Meningitis
3.Multiple Sclerosis
4.Epilepsy
5.Alzheimer’s Diseases
6.Parkinson’s Disease
7.Mental Retardation

How to take care the Nervous System?

a.Eat nutritious foods
b.Avoid engaging in risky activities that might cause falls and accidents.
c.Always follow safety rules whether you are in workplace or playing sports.
d.Dispose of your chemical properly.
e.Avoid drugs, including alcohol and cigarettes.
f.Practice good hygiene, especially of the nose and ears to avoid infections.
g.Learn to manage stress well.
h.Get a good night’s sleep.
i.Consult a doctor when you feel something is wrong.
j. Rest whenever you need.

D. Application (Developing mastery) Post-test 1-10

F. Agreement (Additional activities for As a homework activity, students will write a short reflection on the how to take care our
application or remediation) nervous system.

B. No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover which I wish to share with other teachers?
