1.1 Introducción

Production well tests are tests performed on an oil or gas well to

determine its flow capacity under specific reservoir conditions
and flow pressures. The absolute open flow potential (AOFP) can
be obtained from these tests and then the inflow performance
ratio (IPR) can be generated.

1
1.2 Production testing
These are tests that are carried out
in order to evaluate fundamental
parameters for the adequate
characterization of the reservoir.
For this purpose, it is necessary to
record the flowing and static
bottomhole pressures, as well as

1.3 Production Testing Objectives
Establish the definitive production parameters
regarding the flow rate and pressures controlled at
the wellhead.
They are used to evaluate the quality of the oil and
gas produced, the efficiency of production, and the
ability of the well to maintain a constant production
rate.
3
1.4 Classification of production tests

The tests are executed once the completion of the well is

completed and periodically at any stage of production to check

the flow . Production tests are classified into two types:

4
1.4.1 Production tests in oil wells
They are classified into the following types:

a) Periodic tests b) Pressure restitution tests

5
1.4.1.1 Periodic tests

They are used to control and verify normal flow conditions in

wells at any stage of production. For this purpose, flow control
periods are programmed for each well, in order to detect the
variations that may occur in the flow rate and pressure values at
the wellhead.

6
1.4.1.2 Pressure restitution tests

They are practiced after long periods of exploitation and can

be every 12 months, 18 or 24 months and their main
objective is to control after each period the degree of decline
in well pressures and its effects on recovery factors.

7
1.4.2 Production tests in gas wells
Measure the entry capacity of the formation fluids to the bottom of
the well with a maximum allowable flow rate.
In an open well, verify and record the data on bottomhole pressures,
bottomhole temperature, state of permeability, detection of the
presence of damage and the final radius of drainage of the well. To
determine these parameters, logs are run. open well taking into
account all industrial safety factors.

1.6 Conclusions
Production testing in the oil industry is essential to evaluate
operational efficiency and quality of extracted oil. These tests provide
crucial data to make strategic decisions and optimize production,
ensuring optimal use of resources and long-term sustainable
profitability.
