Writing Part-2
Part 2 is worth 50% of the total score of the writing paper and allows candidates to choose which task you want to
do. Candidates will be given three tasks to choose from which could include an article, email, letter, report or
review.
Assessment scales
Whole marks only are awarded; there are no half marks given. Marks for each of the criteria are combined to give
20 possible marks for each question. There are 40 possible marks for the whole paper.

agreeing and/or disagreeing and speculating.
Part- 3
No time to describe in detail of the photos but to compare them. Start off by comparing the people, the places and the
situations and give a personal reaction to the pictures.
Use the question written above the photo to do the second task. In the second part, you are asked to speculate, i.e. to say
what you think and give opinions.
• Use varied vocabulary and try to use comparative forms correctly.
Don't stop to search for a word you don't remember. Explain what you want to say in other words.
Speaking
Speaking Marking Scheme
The assessor gives 0–5 marks for each of the following criteria:
Grammar and Vocabulary 5 2 = 10
Discourse Management 5 2 = 10
Pronunciation 5 2 = 10
Interactive Communication. 5 2 = 10
Global Achievement 5 4 = 20
Marks for each of these criteria are doubled.
The interlocutor gives a mark of 0–5 for Global Achievement. This mark is then multiplied by four.
Examiners may award half marks.
Marks for all criteria are then combined, meaning there are 60 marks available in the Speaking test.
Common Mistakes by Ss
- Reading
Make mistake in phrasal verbs, collocation, spelling and word formation.
- Writing
Mostly forget to provide linking words, inappropriate vocabularies, repetitive
words, some sentence structures are mostly simple and quite short.
- Listening
Think what they heard for the first part is correct instead of listening correct
answer at the end.
- Speaking
Repeating the same idea instead of introducing new idea to develop the topic.
