IV. READING (2 points)

A. Read the passage and choose A, B, C, or D.

There are many problems that young people have to face when they enter adolescence. At this age
all feelings and emotions are very strong, and all problems seem very important.

Firstly, teenagers don’t get along with their parents, and they often disagree with each other. Parents
do not understand why their children need to buy certain things, listen to certain music or spend
most of their spare time with their friends.

Adolescents also have the same misunderstanding from their teachers. Some teachers think that
students should always study. They do not understand that youth is the time for adolescents to play
and try new things, to learn more about themselves and others.

Peer influence is another serious problem because it makes young people do bad things. Many
people want to look older and more independent. They may start smoking, drinking beer and
sometimes other alcoholic drinks. Some also get involved in school violence and bully younger
students to become cooler in their friends’ eyes.

31. What is the passage mainly about?

A. Disagreement between parents and their teenage children.
B. Peer influence among adolescents.
C. Many problems faced by teenagers.
D. What young people should do to study better.
32. According to the passage, parents do not understand why __________.
A. teenagers want to buy some particular things
B. the children start smoking
C. students do not like studying
D. the youth is the time for teenagers to try new things
33. The phrasal verb get along in the passage is closest in meaning to __________.
A. have a good relationship with someone
B. disagree with someone
C. be angry at someone
D. deliver something to someone
34. What is the reason that makes many young people do bad things?
A. argument with parents B. pressure from peers
C. influence from teachers D. bullies at school
35. What does the word Some in the final paragraph refer to?
A. bad things B. emotions C. problems D. adolescents

B. Read the passage and decide if the sentences are True (T) or False (F). Write T or F in the
blank.
Teenagers and Social Media
Social media has placed great pressure on teenagers today. There are so many popular social
applications, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Discord.
Many studies find that using social media during the night can damage teenagers’ sleep and cause
anxiety and depression. Many young people say they feel pressured to be online all day and they
need to respond immediately to texts or posts. They are so emotionally involved in social media that
they will wake up at night and log in their accounts just to make sure they don't miss anything.
Teenagers spend so much time online that they do not have time to get together with their friends in
real life, and this affects their social skills badly.
The worst thing about this is that adolescents need more sleep than adults do, so night-time social
media use is bad for their health. A lack of sleep can make teenagers tired and depressed.

Welcome everyone to another episode of our podcast, where we learn about the life of teenagers in
different parts of the world. Today we’re going to talk about Britain.

School life:

School British teenagers spend most of their time at school. At the age of sixteen, most students take
their first important exams. They have to study at least 5 subjects to prepare for the exams. This
means students need to spend 2 or 3 hours on homework after school.

School uniforms:

Visit almost any school in Britain and the first thing you'll notice is the school uniform. People can
tell what school a student goes to thanks to the uniform he or she is wearing. In London, there are
many cases of bullying and fighting between students from different schools.

Free time:

Music is the number one interest for British teens. But they certainly don't like all the same music!
Rock, Hip-hop, Blues, and EDM are all popular. Teenagers love going out, too. They often get
together to do the things they like, such as singing, making music, or just getting something to eat.
