PREFACE
Islam has close relationship with civilization because when religion is understood and practiced in daily
life, it will form network of cultures and civilizations. Islamic civilization is characterized by
cosmopolitanism in the sense that it accepts and absorbs foreign cultures as long as they are in line with
the principles of Islam. Islamic civilization is built on the accumulation of various human civilizations
with openness, dialogues, and cooperation.
Building civilized society is a transformative and continuous process through orderly sustainable social
change with people participation. Positive response to change is an important part in development. There
are three main components (1) building and developing high quality human resources,(2) building strong
and just economy, and (3) building prosperity of people. The social development can be achieved through
doctrinal, scientific, and practical approaches to optimally utilize the human and natural resources in order
to create prosperous society.
This conference proceeding presents articles which are authored by scholars and practitioners in the field
of Islamic studies, humanities, and social sciences. The issues addressed is about Islam in relation to
economy, democracy, education, women, culture, health, environment, radicalism, and particularly the
industry revolution 4.0. Participants of the International Conference on Islam and Civilizations come from
Aljazair, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia,
Sudan, and all parts of Indonesia.
