Question (IV): Answer the following questions (8 Marks)

1- What are importace of ATP?

- Energy required for body activity and anabolic functions.
- Energy required for the live where the depletion of energy lead to death (as in
starvation).
- Regulation of body weight where extra energy lead to obesity with its complication.
- Muscle contraction.
- Nerve conduction.
- Absorption-secretion sodium pump.
- Activation of monosaccharides (glucose to glucose-6-P), fatty acids (to fatty acyl
coA), amino acids and synthesis of cyclic AMP and active methionine.
- Thyroid hormones ( T3,T4) controlled energy released.

What are causes of fatty liver?

This is an accumulation of abnormal amount of fat in the liver for long time which
leads to liver fibrosis & impairment of liver function .
Causes of fatty liver :
I- Overmobilization of fat from extrahepatic tissue to the liver :
1- During high fat diet .
2- Due to excessive lipolysis as in carbohydrate low diet, starvation & diabetes Mellitus.
II- High carbohydrate diet :
On high carbohydrate diet, liver is first saturated with glycogen then any excess
carbohydrate is converted to F.A. (lipogenesis) then to triacylglycerol.
III- Undermobilization of fat from the liver to plasma :
Due to deficiency of any factor essential for plasma lipoproteins formation such as :
1- Decreased synthesis of apoprotein .
2- Failure in formation of phospholipids .
3- Failure in conjugation of the apoprotein with triacylglycerols or phospholipids
4- Failure in secretion of lipoprotein from liver to plasma.
5- Liver poisons : as Ccl4 ,CHcl3 , lead & arsenic .
6- Alcoholism : ethanol stimulates lipogenesis & inhibiting fatty acid oxidation.
7- Deficiency of lipotropic factors :
Lipotropic factors are substances that help the mobilization of fat from the liver.
