Sheyla: Well, Let’s to start with the advantages. To me, one good
thing is the flexitime. We haven’t gone to an educational center
every day. It was easy combining our study with work or other
activities, something that would not be so easy with face to face
classes.
B: The Good. We can speak through the microphone and
see the class live, if we have questions we can ask the
teacher.
C: I think that the teacher can correct our pronunciation
when we read a text, since he listens closely to what we
say.
D: I think the class is more
entertaining when we watch videos
and do the virtual platform. Let's
start with the negative.
Sheyla: Well, Let’s to start with the disadvantages. To me, social
isolation was one. Studying online was a solitary activity because
we didn’t share with our classmates or teachers, there were less
interaction and cooperation.
B: My opinion is that sometimes the internet signal is
disconnected or there is a power outage, which is why I am
late or absent.
C: Also the computer is sometimes a problem. The camera
or microphone doesn't work and I can't answer the
teacher's questions.
D: My opinion, for some older
people, virtual classes are difficult.
They have difficulty accessing the
virtual platform, watching online
classes and taking exams.
Sheyla: So, guys, Do you have any ideas for doing it better? How
could we improve our English learning?
B: I think the best way to learn is to listen to all the English.
I listen to TV shows, songs and videos in English. You can do
it while walking, on the bus, exercising or working. You
don't have to be totally focused on listening. Little by little
you learn the sounds and words in English.
C: It's a good idea. Another way is games. There are board
games and video games. It is a good method to learn new
words and listen. It is an advantage to improve your English.
D: A friend says that the best way to
learn is word association. It is the
combination of a word with an
image, a action or another word. For
example, if you hear the sound
meowing you associate it with a cat.
With this connection in your mind,
you will be able to remember all the
words more easily.
Sheyla: Another way to learn English is studying naturally. If you
are curious or you like doing some activity, you can search for
them in English.
For example, if you like cooking, you should search for new
recipes on YouTube dictated by someone who speaks English. If
you like the horror histories, you should search reading them in
english. There are many possibilities!
B: In my opinion, additional to this is finding a group of friends
who want to learn English, and look for a native speaker. I heard
that many learned that way. And To finish the conclusions are:
C: I think that our Conclusions are that online English classes are
very positive, but they have certain limitations such as sometimes
failure of the internet connection, camera and microphone of the
computer.
D: Access to virtuality is difficult for
some older adults. Now let's talk.
And the best way to learn English?
Sheyla: Don’t forget, patience and perseverance are two very
important ingredients!
B: Find a group of people who can help you learn and native
speakers.
C: Another conclusion is to hear and see everything in English in
our house, when cooking, when walking and playing.
