CHANGING THE MINDSET OF THE YOUTH

As our former Miss Universe, Catriona Gray, once said, “Working in some of the poorest
areas of my country, I found that it was a lack of child support, not poverty that killed their
dreams…” This statement realized how the country is still progressing on the notion that poverty
is continually increasing in the country. The relevancy of poverty and hunger is the main
problem of the Philippines, thus, I stand for the importance of ‘no poverty’ in the sustainable
development goals set by the United Nations. Perceiving to thrive the economy of our country
really emulates what we should be doing as a society to connect to the government for our
health and welfare.

In today’s generation, people have an opinion on how our society should progress in the
mere future through the power of technology and the Internet. The cases of poverty in our
country are still volatile in terms of unemployment, low priority projects being executed first, and
many projects subject to the betterment of the country. The importance of ‘No Poverty’ should
be priority one for our country in engaging in a better livelihood for our future generations. In
implementing it first the symptoms of poverty will reduce the poverty rate of the country such as
employment, wide range of opportunities, and much more. Still, compared to the prior years, we
are having difficulty in progressing our economy’s welfare and needs to be handled in the
upcoming years. The seventeen sustainable development goals are so crucial in the
development of a country due to its objectives that need to be the standard of every nation, the
progress that will be gained from these actions will be laid to the upcoming generations of each
country. This cause will be resolved if each individual's mindset is changed by how Filipino
parents perceive those who are affected by poverty in the society.

My parents, like any other Filipino parents, have been instilling in my head this notion,
“Kapag hindi ka nag-aral ng mabuti, magiging katulad ka nila (mga nasa laylayan)” instead of
saying “Mag-aral ka ng mabuti, para matulungan mo sila.” With these simple words, the ranking
of the people lay a different image in our head, hence, never letting us implore to the notion of
helping poor areas of our country. Thus, contributing to changing the notion of future youth can
slowly heal what we know of this issue, and might be the solution to a long decade issue of
poverty in our country.
