Hi, today I would like to introduce to you a sport that combines two disciplines: cross-country

skiing and rifle shooting. This sport is called Biathlon. It is a winter Olympic sport. Biathlon
competition for adults is completed of a series of courses between 7,5 and 20 kilometres.
There are different types of competitions.
The Individual one is length 20 kilometres for men and 15 kilometres for women. The
shooting follows in this order: prone, standing, prone, standing, totalling 20 targets. For each
missed target, there is a fixed penalty time, usually one minute.
The sprint takes 10 kilometres for men and 7,5 for women. In total there are 10 targets. For
each miss the penalty is penalty loop which is 150 meters long.
Mixed relay is composed of two men and two women, men run 7,5 kilometres and women 6.
For each miss is penalty loop like in sprint 150 meters.
There are two types of shooting: prone and standing. The target for prone shooting is
45 millimetres in diameter. For standing, it is 115 millimetres. The shooter stands or lays 50
meters from the target.
These are basic parts of our air gun: stock, bead, belt, sight, trigger, barrel. For
shooting you also need pellets.
I started with cross-country skiing in 2018 in club in Banská Bystrica. In cross-country
skiing I run between 2 and 5 kilometres. I started shooting with air rifle in 2021. My
competition takes between 4,5 and 6 kilometres. We have summer and winter biathlon. I
prefer the winter one. Winter competitions take place in Osrblie. In summer they take place in
Ružomberok, Vyhne or Predajná.
Our trainings are oriented this way: During summer we have trainings four times in a
week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. During trainings we run, shoot,
roller ski or cycle. Usually, we have race during the weekend. In winter we have trainings and
races at the same days, but on trainings we only do cross-country skiing and shooting.

I hope that this presentation has given you a deeper understanding of this fascinating
sport. Thank you for your attention and I hope, you will continue to follow and support the
world of Biathlon.
