The exploration of oil and gas in Tanzania is governed by the petroleum (Exploration and

production ) , with outlines the procedure for acquiring exploration rights, conducting
exploration activities , and obtaining production licenses . The followings are procedures for
exploration of oil and gas in Tanzania , as stipulated by the petroleum are as follows:

1. Obtain an exploration licenses – any person or company interested in exploring for oil
and gas in Tanzania must first obtain an exploration license from the minister responsible
for energy. The license provides the license holder with the exclusive right to explore for
oil and gas in the specified area for period of four years ,which can be renewed for two
additional periods of two years each . Sometimes the muster may grant or refuse the
application based on the applicants suitability and compliance the Act

2. Conduct surveys – Once an exploration license granted, the license holder must conduct
geological surveys , geographical surveys, and any other necessary studies to determine
the potential for oil and gas resources in the area . And also surveys is help the muster
holder to know the exploration goes without affect the any things around the exploration
area.

3. Submit a work program and budget – based on the result of surveys, the license holder
must submit the work program and budget to the muster for approval . The work
program must detail the activities to be under taken during the exploration phase and the
budget must provide a breakdown of the costs associated with each activity. This it help
to do exploration without or with small costs.

4. Carry out exploration activities - With the approval of the work program and budget, the
license holder must being exploration activity activities in the license area. This may
include drilling, seismic survey, and other method of exploration. The license must also
comply with applicable environmental and social impact assessment requirements . Also
these are usually conducted to gain a deeper understanding of particular subject and to
identify potential opportunities or challenges . for instance , a company many carry out
exploration activities to identify new market opportunities or explore new technologies
that can improve their products or services .
5. Submit periodic reports – This refers to the process of providing regular updates or
progress reports to a specific audience or stakeholders . These reports can be weekly ,
monthly , quarterly or annually depending on agreement made between the parties
involved or the regulations governing the project or organization. The license holder must
submit periodic reports of the minister detailing the progress of the exploration activities
and any significant findings.

6. Obtain environmental clearance – Before any drilling or other exploration activities can
commence, the license holder must obtain environmental clearance from the National
Environment Management Council (NEMC) to ensure that the exploration activities do
not have a negative impact on the environment and organism living their.

7. Abide by health and safety regulation – The license holder must abide by health and
safety regulations as stipulated by the petroleum ( Exploration and Production )
regulations 2019 for the protection of workers and the environment surround the place
which exploration and production occur .

8. Notify the minister of any discoveries – If the license holder discovers any oil or gas
resources during the exploration phase , they must immediately notify the minister and
proceed with further evolution and appraisal of the resources.

9. Apply for development license – if the evaluation and appraisal of resources indicate that
they are economically viable , the license to commence development and production of
oil and gas in Tanzania . this it help to increase the production and help the environment.
Once you have obtain a development license you may need to comply with certain
condition or regulations , such as regular reporting on the progress of your project,
demonstrating that you are using approved research methods , and adhering to safety
protocols. It is important to carefully review all requirements associated with your
development license to avoid penalties or delays in your project.
