Bertrand, T et al. “The Nitrogen Cycles On Pluto

Over Seasonal And Astronomical Timescales.” Cornell University Library, April 6,

2018.

The purpose of this source is to learn more information about Pluto and the areas located on
Pluto. Pluto is shaped by the different cycles of ices covering its surface. There is a certain type
of sheet of ice called Sputnik Planitia. Sputnik Planitia displays a large diversity of terrains,
which includes bright and dark plains, pits, topographic depression and evidence of recent and
past glacial flows. Outside of the Sputnik Planitia it is revealed lots of N2 ice deposits located at
the mid-atlantic latitudes and Tombaugh Regio. Based on these observations we can conclude
that Pluto has an interesting history. There are multiple simulations of volatile transport on Pluto
performed on models that can show the N2 cycle of millions of years, they accounted for the
changes of obliquity cycle, the latitudes of Sputnik Planitia.

Byrne, Paul. “Pluto Should Be The Ninth Planet. A Planetary Scientist Explain Why.” BBC

Science Focus; Bristol, June 12, 2023.

The purpose of this source is to explain why Pulto should be a planet. That way I know both
arguments on why Pluto is not a planet. This article gave me a different idea of what I have been
taught about Pluto. This satirical claims that Pluto should be a planet and it brought up some very
interesting points about why it should not have been demoted to a dwarf planet. For all of my life
I have always been taught that Pluto is not a planet, that it is a dwarf planet. This article talks
about how Pluto was only demoted to being considered a dwarf planet because then they would
have had to call multiple other things planets. When Pluto was first discovered it was called a
planet but they started to find too many other objects that had the same qualification to be a
planet as Pluto. Instead of making all of those other objects planets they demoted Pluto and the
other objects to dwarf planets. The author brought up a good point about how there are hundreds
of countries and thousands of languages spoken, but there are only eight planets simply because
they did not want too many planets.
Calonia, Jennifer. “How To Write A Children's Book” Grammarly, July 6,

2022.

The significance of this source is to people on how to properly write a children's book. Children's
books are way more significant than you might think. Children's books inspire children and are
very important for the development of kids. These kids are the next generation, the ones who will
be curing skinesses and taking care of us when we are older. It is important that you know who
your target audience is. If you want to write for preschools you must include things that they like
such as bright colors, pretty pictures, and easy words. While it is important to have a fun story it
must also make sense and have a clear message.

Field, K. J. “5 Little Dwarf Planets: A Rhyming Solar System Book.” PlutoShine Press,

September 28, 2022.

The purpose of this book is to give information to children about dwarf planets as they are often
forgotten. I used this as an example of a children's book being written about space which can
sometimes be a boring subject but make it fun. This is a book that has rhymes that inform kids
about science specifical dwarf planets including Pluto. In this book they introduce the five dwarf
planets the kids that likely range from 3-8 in a fun way that also gives the kids basic information.
The rhymes talk about Pluto and his friends (the other dwarf planets) Haumea, Ceres,
Makemake, and Eris. These rhymes inspire young children to dream about space and what could
be out there. It also encourages them not to forget about the little dwarf planets.

Mann, Adam et al. “Why Is Pluto Not A Planet.” Space.com, October 13,

2022.

The significance of this source is finding out the reasons why Pluto is no longer considered a
planet. On August 24, 2006 the International Astronomical Union voted to change Pluto from a
planet to a dwarf planet. While Pluto is still classified as a dwarf planet it is still debated about
whether it was the right decision. The International Astronomical Union Has defined a plane as a
celestial body that orbits the sun with a nearly spherical appearance, and has cleared debris from
its orbit. The definition of a planet is so wide that it may even allow the asteroid belt to be
considered a planet, even though Pluto seems like it would be the better option.
