Good day!

I am Ms. Ailen B. Borbe, a MAEd candidate at the Laguna State Polytechnic University – Los
Banos Campus, Los Banos, Laguna. I am currently conducting a thesis entitled “LIVED
EXPERIENCES OF PARA-TEACHERS IN FACILITATING ENGLISH SUBJECTS IN
MODULAR LEARNING: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY”. The purpose of this study is
to describe the lived experiences of para-teachers in facilitating English Subjects in modular
learning. Also, this aims to determine the para-teachers’ coping mechanisms in guiding their
children in modular distance learning.

The interview may take 20-30 minutes of your time and your voluntary participation will
contribute to the attainment of the research objectives. Moreover, the entire research
processes are guided by the RA 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012. Any personal
information that you share will be kept confidential. Likewise, you can withdraw anytime
without consequence or penalty.

KEY-INFORMANT INTERVIEW GUIDE

This interview guide is composed of ten (12) questions. Follow-up questions will also
be provided to have an in-depth perspective regarding the topic.

II. Main Questions

1. What kind of assistance have you provided to your child/children when


accomplishing their English module? Please describe the situation from the
distribution to retrieval of learning modules.

2. What are the factors that hinder you to provide considerable amount of time for
assisting your child/children in their English learning module? What did you do to
provide enough for your child/children in assisting them?

3. What problems have you encountered when assisting your children in answering
English modules? How do you address these problems?

4. Do you think the contents of English module are easy to understand for all parents?
Can you cite some lessons which may be easy and/or difficult for you? What
adjustments have you done to provide continuous assistance to your children when
accomplishing learning tasks in English?

5. Among the English learning skills, which skill do you consider as the most difficult to
teach to your children? How about the easiest? (speaking, reading, viewing, writing,
and listening skills) What strategies have you utilized to teach these skills?

6. Do you set particular time for accomplishing learning module in English? Do you
employ house rules that your children need to follow when answering English
learning module? If so, are these strategies effective?

7. How will you ensure that your children have already finished answering their English
learning module? You may cite your motivation, reinforcement, and punishment
strategies. Are these strategies effective for continuous learners’ engagement in
English language learning under modular instruction.

8. Aside from you, do you receive any assistance from other family members of the
family? If yes, how frequent do they provide help?
9. As a primary caregiver, do you provide a working space in your home for your
children to study and create an environment conducive to learning at home?

10. Do you establish two-way communication channels between school and home?
How often do you visit in school to check the performance of your children?

ENDING QUESTION (This question asks participants to reflect on the entire discussion and
then offer their positions or opinions on topics of central importance to the researcher.)

11. Suppose you were given a chance to ask one program to help a para-teacher like
you in facilitating modular learning, what program will you propose?

12. With all the experiences that you have encountered, what specific help do you need to
cope with those challenges?
