Sheet No. 8

1- Consider the system given by:

𝑥̇ = 𝐴𝑥 + 𝐵𝑢
where,
0 1 0 0
𝐴=[ 0 0 1 ] , 𝐵 = [1 ]
−1 −5 −6 1

- By using state feedback control 𝑢 = −𝑲𝑥, it is desired to have the closed-loop poles at

𝑠1 = −2 + 𝑗4, 𝑠2 = −2 − 𝑗4, 𝑠3 = −10

- Determine the state feedback-gain matrix K.

u x
B + ʃ
+

-K

2- A regulator system has a plant

𝑌(𝑠) 10
=
𝑈(𝑠) (𝑠 + 1)(𝑠 + 2)(𝑠 + 3)
Define state variables as
𝑥1 = 𝑦, 𝑥2 = 𝑥1̇ , 𝑥3 = 𝑥2̇

- By using state feedback control 𝑢 = −𝑲𝑥, it is desired to have the closed-loop poles at

𝑠1 = −2 + 𝑗2√3, 𝑠2 = −2 − 𝑗2√3, 𝑠3 = −10

- Determine the state feedback-gain matrix K.

3- Consider the system defined by

𝑥̇ 0 1 𝑥1 1
[ 1] = [ ] [𝑥 ] + [ ] 𝑢
𝑥2̇ 0 2 2 0

- Show that this system cannot be stabilized by the state- feedback control u = -Kx, whatever
matrix K is chosen.
