UNIT – II (PART – A)
What is Brewster Angle? [Dec 2023]
The Brewster angle is the angle at which no reflection occurs in the medium
of origin.
 It occurs when the incident angle is such that the reflection coefficient is equal to zero.
 The Brewster angle is given by
1
sin  B  
1   2  (1)

 When the first medium is free space and the second medium has a
relative permittivity  r , equation (1) can be expressed as

r 1
sin  B  
 r2  1  (2)

o The Brewster angle occurs only for vertical (i.e. parallel) polarization.

How the pseudo noise sequence can be generated? [Dec 2023]
 A pseudo-noise (PN) or pseudorandom sequence is a binary sequence with an autocorrelation that
resembles, over a period, the autocorrelation of a random binary sequence.
 Its autocorrelation also roughly resembles the autocorrelation of band-limited white noise.

UNIT – II
If the transmitter power is 1W and carrier frequency is 2.4 GHz and the receiver is at a distance of
1 mile (1.60934 km) from the transmitter. Assume that the transmitter and receiver antenna gains
are 1.6. Determine the received power in dBm in the free space of a signal, the path loss in dB and
transmission delays? [Dec 2023]
Solution:
a) 10log (Pt) = 30 dBm because 1 W in dBm is 10 log (1W/1mW) = 30 dBm.

Using Eq . for f = 2 .4 GHz , antenna gains of 1.6 , distance of 1 meter,

we have 10log(P0) = 30 - 40.046 = -10.046 dBm and
Pr = -10.046 - 20 log (1600) = - 7 4 .1 28 d Bm.
b) The path loss is given by the difference between 10log (Pt ) and 10log (Pr) (where both are
in dBm).
This is 104.128 dB.
c) The transmission delay is clearly 3 X 1600 = 4800 ns = 4.8 ms .
