BAMBOO REINFORCED CONCRETE SEPTIC TANK FOR RURAL SANITATION

ABSTRACT

Now a days the use of concrete and steel reinforcement is increasing day by day which is effecting the
environment by excessive increase in the mining to meet the demand of the steel . So we have to think some alternative to
the steel i.e, the bamboo . From recent times the use of bamboo for various purposes was going on for making roofs , Bullock
carts , broom , small hut etc. As scientists also conformed that the tensile strength of the bamboo is more than the steel , the
fibrous structure of the bamboo can withstand more tension than the steel bar . Main reason to use the bamboo is it’s cost it
is cheaper than the steel and easily available at any place .So the strength, durability of this concrete is much more than the
normal concrete.
Our selected topic for the project is “Bamboo Reinforced Concrete Septic For Rural Sanitation” that is to
construct a concrete septic tank by replacing some percentage of steel bars by the bamboo . Which is eco-friendly and also
good alternative for the steel , it is cost effective , durable and stronger than the regular one. Our main work is to construct
such a septic tank which is casted at one place and can be transported to another place. We will use the bamboo by coating
it with the resin to protect it from the environmental effects like to protect it from the water . The tank will be waterproof
and stronger than the regular . Today in villages there is trend of constructing soak pits for the wastewater because of its
low cost but it can pollute the groundwater so we are willing to construct a cost effective septic tank which can be affordable
in the village also. The proper IS codes will be referred by us for completion of project. In this project three water tanks of
appropriate size and shape(Circular/Rectangular) will be cast and tested for leakage and stability in lab and will be
transferred to site for actual installation.
