The BBBP Scheme was launched on 22nd January, 2015 at Panipat, Haryana State by Hon’ble Prime Minister to protect the interest of the girl children and ensure their
education. Ministry of Women and Child Development is the Nodal Ministry for implementing the Scheme.
The census 2011, reveals the extensive and significant decline in Child Sex ratio ( CSR) recording an all- time low of 918 girls for every 1000 boys. 13 out of 35 states and
UTs have CSR lower than the national average. Therefore Government of India selected 100 districts on the basis of low Child Sex Ratio as per Census 2011 covering all
states / UTs on a pilot basis covering at least one district in each state.
In Tamil Nadu, Cuddalore District has been chosen for implementation of the BBBP scheme as the Child Sex Ratio is the lowest in the State. However the Child Sex Ratio for
Tamil Nadu is 943/1000 which is above the national ratio of 918/1000.
The CSR for the Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu and India is detailed below
1. Child Sex Ratio in cuddalore district have been increased from 886 in 2015 to 895 in 2016
2. Dropout rate for upper primary school (girls) has come down from 1.5 % in 2015 to 1.0% in 2016.
3. Dropout rate for Secondary School (girls) has come down from 3.26% 2015 to 1.5% in 2016.
4. Under Suganya Samirithi Yojana new account have been opened for 59491 children.
5. Over all infra-structure have been developed like residential school, provision of toilet & water facility, installation of incinerator in girls schools.

Delhi on 24th January, 2017 for the good performance on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme for “Effective Community Engagement ”.
The Government of India has recognized the efforts of Tamil Nadu State in Overall Support, Guidance, Monitoring and Achieving the target of BBBP and felicitatedTamil
Nadu on 24.01.2019 with BBBP National Award for the year 2019.
Tamil Nadu has been felicitated as a recognition for its work demonstrating improvement in the sex ratio at birth (SRB) during 2018 with National Award - Nari Shakthi
